When To Shift?
Hey guys...Im planning on going on a 1/4 mile soon wit some friends. And i was just thinking when is the best time to shift the gear..Ive heard that first and second gears shouldnt be holded to 6.5K rpm..What would you say? I normaly shift around 6.1K rpm for all gears (im not talking about general driving..) but ive heard ppl say that i should shift earlier than that, about 5.5K rpm..Any suggestions?

You should shift near redline if you are racing. N/A engines will get a lot of power near there, so take it up close.
Tiburons don't make any power over 5800-6000RPM, but in the lower gears to take advantage of the aggressive gearing, I tach it up beyond that. I shift like this normally:
1st: 6300-6400
2nd: 6200
3rd: 6000
4th: 6000
Never been into 5th at high rpm so I dunno bout that.

I typically shift around max torque, which happens at 4800 rpm. My rpms usually drop 1000 per shift, so i like to keep my tach going from 4300-5300 from shift to shift. Of course max hp occurs around 6000rpm, so it could also be best to shift with that in the center of your rpm range.
Hmm..my mods are pretty simple, headers 4-1 (which from what i know give me better top end), exhaust, CAI and 58mm throtle body is comming up wink1.gif
Hamhed thats pretty close how i shift except that i go for the red line in 2nd gear, and change on 6.1+ on the others..

hehe..i thought i was shifting ok..but them ppl started saying that i should shift earlier on the first gear..but then i move slower on the 2nd gear..so i was just thinking how u guys do it..but anyway thanks for the help! wink1.gif

I shift at or near redline, boost keeps me making power till i run out of tach.

Ohh..another thing..Double clutching? smile.gif anyone does that? i know our cars have the electronic thingy that makes the engine match up the revs..but anyway..am i wrong? do u guys double clutch?
