I always drop a gear, sometimes 2, going into tight corners, and use the go-pedal to keep things under control.



That's for regular road though, never been on a closed course.

If you're understeering mid-corner, something went wrong on the way in. The fix isn't to try and upset the car when one corner of it is already near-fully loaded; the fix is to find out what happened on the way in, and not do it again. +1 for finding an instructor and attending a road race course.
