We seem to have a well inform group of people hanging around in this forum so I though I would ask everyone's advice on racing tires, what they prefer and why for Solo racing, R-Compound, slick etc...

I personally want to get some R-Compound tires next spring and so far my choice is on the Kumho V700 Victoracer, the other choices are Toyo Proxes RA-1 & Hoosier A3S0 those are affordable and very good performance tires. Does anyone else have any other suggestions?

The other think that I'm considering is to put so 14" rims on my tibs, this would change my diameter to a smaller tire which would lower the car and make my wheel go faster, change my gear ratio... what does everyone think about that ?

BTW I'm French so sorry for all the misspells oops.gif .

For autocross, I would go with the 14s...all the things you mentioned and tires are less expensive. I havn't used all of the various tires but talking to my club members and reading other impressions of them gives me the opinion that
- Hoosiers are the highest grip tire available, BUT are the shortest lived and the most expensive
- V700s are good when shaved and properly heat cycled, best performance in wet conditions but are somewhat lacking in the dry
- RA-1s are not as sticky as Kuhmos or Hoosiers but are the longest lived

One tire you didn't mention is the Kuhmo Escta Victoracer...the consensus seems to be that it is still the best "all around" tire for the average autocrosser considering cost, life, and grip.

I didn't mentioned the Kuhmo Escta Victoracer because I though it was the same as the V700 Victoracer... thanks I'll look them up.

Ok, just been on www.kumhousa.com and found the one I was talking about the Victoracer V700 but there's no ECSTA Victoracer in competition tires what you probably mean is the ESCTA V700 which sound pretty good from the Data sheet. and there is a better selection of sizes... I would probably go with a 225/50/14 or a 195/55/14 that would give me 1" less in Diameter.
