Joining SCCA
I would really like to join SCCA and do some solo2 events or something. I figure that my car would be in the Street Touring catagory since I have a CAI into the fenderwell, a rear sway bar, and bigger rims/wider tires than stock... is this right?
Do you have to/should you go to the school thing that they offer. I figure it would be beneficial either way. How exactly do you get started doing this sort of thing? I live in San Jose, CA, so I would be close to all the SF Bay events.
Has anyone else here done this sort of thing? Sounds like a lot of fun!

Autocross/Solo2 is a great experience. It allows you to explore the limits of your car in a safe and sanctioned environnment. (now if that wasn't a canned response, I don't know what is) I've auto-x'ed for a couple of years now and I've been running my Tib since I got it.
Now as far as class goes Street Touring -S would be fine. Keep in mind you will be competing against *real* Integra Type R's, Golfs and Civics, as well as various other modded imports. (I jokinly refer to this class as the 'Rice Rocket clsss') However, the catch is most cars in that class already have a fully modified suspension. Not just strut ties and springs. They've got the works. And for the most part these guys/gals can drive well. That's not to discourage you at all...but don't make the mistake I did and take an almost stock car out there and expect to beat everybody ;-)
But the whole point is to learn and become a better driver. You compete against yourself (hence the term 'solo' I suppose). You don't even need to compete in a class. You only really need to do that if you are running for points. This late in the season, points don't much matter now. My experience has been that the people who autocross are usually pretty nice. So, if you go to an event, talk to people, ask around...there will plenty of people willing to help.
Don't know if you saw this, but here is a link to a calander of events sanctioned by the San Francisco region of SCCA

I'm usually at the events in Sacramento at Mather Airfield. I'm the only Tiburon I've ever seen...in fact I think I'm the only Hyundai I've ever seen. My friend and co-drive the the car. So if you feel like making the jaunt to Sac, maybe we can meet up. Feel free to email me.
I'd be happy to get anybody else addicted to the sport. To me it's more fun the going straight fast for a 1/4 mile, but that's my opinion.

Thanks for the help man! I sent you an e-mail... So does that mean that there are no other TSR members with a pulse that do SCCA events? Anyone in the SF area interested in doing, or already participating, in some events?
Hey guys, you don't even have to be an SCCA member to run in an autocross. Go to a few, see if you like it, then join. Benefits of joining SCCA include discounts on race entry fees (usually like five bucks or so), a subscription to their newsletter and a few other little things.
ENJOY!!
ENJOY!!
