A moron in a Contour SVT decided to race me tonight.
2 left turn lanes going down onto a free way onramp. Onramp is a Right hand 180 turn.
I gave him the "inside" lane for the left hand turn, which would give him the advantage off the start, but my "outside" lane turns into the INSIDE lane for the 180 turn onto the freeway!
Even before the light went green, CSVT boy is slowly rolling through the intersection. Finally the light goes green and we are off.
The fact that I have the "outside" lane for this first left hander turned out to be to my advantage. I get traction on both wheels and start to accelerate very well. CSVT boy smokes his inside tire, and chips his outside tire as he trys to floor the car and make a tight inside 90 degree left....
I'm about even with him (he had a car lengh advantage by rolling into the intersection while the light was red), but I have more Mo' (momentum) and go flying past him as I move into second gear. As we approach the 180 right hand corner, I'm now on the inside, and a good car length ahead of him, so I just kept it in second and slow down from 60 to about 45-50 MPH. My stock tires with 30000 miles were protesting this sharp of a corner at this speed, so I didn't push it. Didn't want to end up in his lane and take him with me.
At the end of the downhill 180 onramp it drops to one lane where we join the freeway. I floor it before it straightens out and the car accelerates and the front end loses traction and drifts me into the left lane as the freeway straight away starts, good think cuz my lane was ending...
I'm a good 2 car lengths ahead of him and the pure acceleration freeway test is upon us. I take it up to about 100 MPH and by then he is about 5 car lengths back...so I flash my hazzards and slow down. There were other cars (3) on the road ahead and I didn't feel like trying to fly past them at triple digit speeds with another car on my tail...or at least following me.
I give him the thumbs up as he goes by...but he just ignored it.
I know the Contour SVT is supposted to have some oomph...but I guess not in cornering... *grin*

According to the dyno testing I did last weekend...a whopping 110 at the wheels! in stock form, 116.2 with the CAI.
*laugh*
That's why I'm so suprised that the Contour SVT didn't do better.
Im 99% sure it was a real SVT. Had the badging and the side skirts...
