Default Driving/Race Schools

Hey guys,
I'm sure that this has been asked before, but I am looking into taking some driving classes for track racing. I am interested in taking this as far as I can, but I want a good foundation to start with. Can anyone recommend some good driving schools to me that are in the southern states? Thank you very much for anything you can provide

Also, what would I need to do in order to take my passion for driving from hobby to profession?

What racing have you done? What do you want to do?

The type of pro racing you want to do should influence the type of grassroots motorsports you get in to.

The National Auto Sports Association is the first group that comes to mind. Go check out nasaproracing.com

Also check out trackpedia.com to see what tracks are near your location. You'll need to get to them in order to run HPDE (High Performance Drivers Education) and Race Schools with NASA (or any other local/regional motorsports association).

They usually have a small membership fee and from there you pay for track weekends either on a per day or weekend basis. You will generally be driving your own car to begin with (different levels of HPDE) and from there they can teach you everything you need to know in order to pursue a race license. I run with a regional motorsports group in AZ called ProAutoSports, after a while of HPDE in my own car a couple of the founders/owners/instructors have track cars of their own that they let you drive to better school you on driving in a race (since your car may or may not be race competitive in certain groups). I get to drive their Miata and VW Rabbit from time to time, but don't ever race in any competitive groups (no racecar of my own), just Time Attacks here and there and the higher level HPDE (where I get to run with Corvettes, Ferrari, Audi R8s, etc.)

Generally how it works is to race in a group you need to have a license stating you are qualified to drive in that race group issued by the association hosting the race.

If you've got boat loads of cash and are near an area where NASA operates, then there is probably Bondurant races that coincide with the NASA track weekends as well. Give Bondurant your life savings and they'll turn you into a race car driver in a weekend or so, driving Corvette C6s and open-wheel racers in a competitive environment (against other students in your class).

Just do a little research online on NASA, Bondurant, and any local/regional motorsport associations you may know of to get signed up and start attending track weekend.
