Bad idea to autocross with extended studs and spacers?

Bad idea to autocross with extended studs and spacers?
ive read bad stories and even heard people talk about it that going on an autocross event with extended studs and spacers is not a good idea because they can create havoc on your car. they can break or cause things to fall off. is there anybody on here that takes them off when doing events or is there anybody who does use them with out any problems?

it depends on the hardware installed..if you use non hub centric spacers and lug&stud hardware of low quality metal..it might prove no Bueno.
keep in mind that when you increase the width or the stance of your wheels, they will tend to rub the inner fender.

If they are hubcentric spacers (to car and to wheel) running high strength extended studs you will be fine.
If any one of those conditions isn't the case you're asking for trouble. I watched a Lotus Exige S snap its wheel studs (it had a stud conversion) and the loose wheel and tire did a lot of body damage.

sorry to shake the dust but the possible reason why the stud conversion failed on the exige is because the studs were screwed on whereas cars that use studs that are pressed on wont experience this.

I can't see it being any better or worse than simply running wide/different offset wheels in the first place.
Of course, you can always count on the fact that the hard, 35 series tyres on most stanced/spaced cars will never generate enough grip to cause a problem anyway

It sheared the studs off. They didn't back out or pull out. It was also on R-comp tires that were at least a foot wide.
I can't speak to whether the lug nuts were overtightened or some other odd issue caused the failure.

I looked for the pics, I guess I never posted them anywhere. I'll try to remember to find them at home. It messed up the body pretty badly.
