Not to mention the short, rough bolt that rotates too far in awkward directions, and the steel butt pushed back by a full-house "medium" rifle cartridge into your shoulder.

 

Cheers for sharing, it is nice to get some frank opinions. Given all of the SMLEs fell apart because of striking english workers, what are some other alternatives? Aesthetics takes a back seat to reliability here.

For zombies? None.



In real life though: it should be a western rifle, .223 or smaller, no semi-automatic, magazine size < 9 rounds... that's it off the top of my head. Nothing that could upset the government or overpower an AUSTEYR.

 

To rephrase, nothing built by/for commies, bolt or pump action, with a small magazine. Are detachable magazines acceptable?



.223 is, despite being a puny womanish looking round, quite capable of killing the [deleted] out of somebody, especially with some of the personal defense rounds out there. It's not my first choice but if it's as big as you can get, it's not bad.

 

I'm not sure about detachable mags, but pump action is also disallowed.



.223 is a really sweet round to shoot, I had the opportunity to go target shooting with an AUSTEYR and it was loads of fun. Once you start going bigger than that, I can't shoot for extended periods without some sort of shoulder protection.

 

Recoil is 85% mental. Stand and hold the weapon right (critical) and prepare yourself for it mentally (also critical), and people your size are shoulder-firing heavy machine guns in the sandbox right now. I went shooting with a dude twice my weight and was astonished to find him recoil shy, shooting a 12 gauge shotgun. He had supplied the land, the backstop, and a bunch of slugs so I went ahead and chewed up the backstop with 'em and had a great time.



The AUSTEYR/AUG is a pretty nifty rifle, I just can't get past having the chamber that close to my face.

The largest rifle I've shot was a .308 Anschutz (spelling?) and that hurt! I was shooting prone, and I had a large bruise on my shoulder after every shooting session. Having a good shooting position really helps mitigate recoil fatigue/injuries though.

 

Wtf, I have 3 M44s, 2 M38, 4 91/30s, 2 of those being legit pu's. I only buy them selectively, as you have to really look at the bores very closely. Also a good hint to a good rifle is looking if it is counterbored or not. I know the actions can be hard cause of the bolts, and people never tear them down to clean the cosmo out completely. With my Pu at 300 yards stock scope I get a 6" group with 147grain light ball! NOT HAND LOADS! My M38 is my favorite, nice muzzle break, keeps recoil down and stock irons I can do 4" group at 150 yards. Thats no target gun I kmow, but that tihht enough to put a bullet through the chest pretty easy. I would reccomend these rifle to anyone, yet they take ALOT of gettin use to, to shoot accurately!
