Ugly design would be loved by Communists. Security designers went for a "feeling" of security but what if the Zombies are fast enough to get in before the walls close?

I would just keep it closed up most of the time, only opening certain areas.

I wonder if it can withstand a nuclear attack since it looks like it doubles as a bomb shelter.

Depends on distance from the blast, how high they detonated the bomb, and terrain between you and the bomb.

I can't remember if it was Hiroshima or Nagasaki, but someone survived at the epicenter of the detonation because they were in some super safe in a bank. So it seems you can build blast proof shelters. **That was a fission bomb and didn't have the power of the modern fusion weapons. If you have a one megaton bomb for a few miles you will see 20+psi and winds over 500mph. Not sure how you could test that..

Like shocker said, it would do good against fall out (with the right air filters). That is what most bomb shelters are really meant to do, keep the fallout away.
