How old was everyone here when they got their 1st CC and how much was the limit on it? Was it a major card (visa, mastercard) or a store card like Sears or Best Buy?
Go to your bank and get a regular major credit card. I was 17, had it open 10 years. Originally $1,000 limit for emergencies, now $10,000.
If you're smart, you'll open one as young as possible and keep it open for as long as possible, with the highest limit available and don't use it.

18, and I opened 2 within a couple of days of either other. 1 was Sears with a $500 limit and the other was a Visa with a $1,000 limit. Both are closed now (highest I spent on both was only about $100). Now I have 4 major credit cards and zero store cards:
- 2 visa's: $8,500 limit & 10,000 limit (both only have about $40 spent on them...hate high balances)
- 1 mastercard: $10,000 limit ($77 spent on it)
- 1 American Express: $25,000 limit (nothing spent on it...its locked away in my home safe for emergencies)
I have 100% perfect credit and I plan to keep it that way!

think i started out with a visa from my credit union at around 16 years old. i remember being so excited to have a 500$ limit. Don't think I have it anymore, but i have a ton of cards, all with balances that are to high.. Fail.

I was 17. Still have and use the card on a regular basis, credit limit has increased 12x what it originally was. You can call and request higher, if your credit is good enough they will usually honor the request.
One of the cards I have has a negative balance of -$10 (overpayment). Apparently I get charged a service fee of $1 per billing cycle on that negative balance, what a joke!

I refuse to have any CC that has a high annual fee or anything with interest rates over 6%. I never do cash advances, which alot of times bumps the interest waaaaayy up, so I dont care about that. I also only want CC's where I can get cash back or points.

The one we use gets 1-3% cash back, WAY more than makes up for annual fee. We buy most everything on it and pay it off every month. It was VERY tough writing that first $2000+ check
