Default Workers of the World Unite!

USA's Department of Labor: in the very best of hands. Secretary of labor shows solidarity with workers by buying a GM car! Make that, CANADIAN workers who build the Equinox Crossover in Canadanadia.

Good job, madam Secretary. Way to go.

Did you guys read the whole article??

When Whispers notified her office that her “American-made†car was actually Canadian, Labor spokesman Carl Fillichio said, “Modern automobile manufacturing is a global industry and General Motors is a company whose reach extends far beyond the boundaries of the United States. Cars assembled here in the U.S. are made from globally sourced parts, just as cars assembled in other countries utilize parts made in America. Not only is the Equinox the second fastest selling SUV in America—a good sign for the overall health of the U.S. auto industry—66 percent of its parts were made in America. That’s up from about 50 percent just a few years ago.â€

And last time I checked, GM was a US company.

EDIT - BTW, it's going to hit 100F here in Ottawa tomorrow (a.k.a Frozen land)

Yep I read it. Did you read anything besides my dumb joke about the frozen people?

Just because I was curious. Weather.com says 84 as a high for Ottawa. Here in Houston we are only going to get to 94.. I hope some of the rain Lee makes it..

I'm pretty sure that the people who make those parts to assemble the cars in Canada ARE middle-class American's.

You can be mad that I do not support moving our production north, south, east, east south east, northwest, etc etc of our border, I am ok with that. Americans got lazy and sent our production around the world in the new global market. (What caused that is another debate) Yeah that global crap works great, tell that to all of those here that can't find a job. Now we export bad housing loans and crappy promises of we will pay you back.

What killed many auto sector jobs in the US was the ridiculous benefits, pensions and sick time/vacation that the workers had & have. Why pay an American $25+ an hour PLUS benefits and pension etc etc when you can move production elsewhere (Mexico) and pay the workers next to nothing and make more money for the company? I think the auto sector jobs were lost by the people who had them in the first place.

http://www.theblaze.com/stories/chry...om-union-hall/

((BTW this group is not the group I support.. lol.. ))

not these guys!??!?!

I agree. The unions had a lot to do with what happened. It wasn't just politicians that get caught saying the wrong thing then having to spin what they said to get out of it. I am not a superanti-union, but unions that grow to powerful can end up being as bad as evil corporations. Balance.. is there.. somewhere... maybe?
