on a side note, I was in LA this past weekend and found myself in two walmarts. Both had banks inside of them that looked like a hole in the wall and were called Banco Popular and had a cheesy logo next to the name. Who in their right mind would bank with them? LOL

Maybe a local can fill me in? Is this a bank for illegals or something?

Is this the logo?

If so.. It's the biggest bank of Puerto Rico. They have branches in Chicago and ALL over FL.

QUOTE
Popular, Inc., is a financial services conglomerate that has been operating in Puerto Rico for over 112 years, and in the United States for almost 52. In recent years it has expanded into other areas of the Caribbean and Central America. It is better known as Banco Popular, but it is also known as BPPR for Banco Popular de Puerto Rico.

Popular, Inc. is the parent company of Banco Popular de Puerto Rico, Banco Popular North America, Evertec, E-Loan, and several other companies.

World Headquarters are based in San Juan, Puerto Rico on the Golden Mile in Hato Rey. The headquarters of Banco Popular North America are located in Rosemont, Illinois.

QUOTE
Banco Popular is currently the largest bank in Puerto Rico, the largest company (public or private) in Puerto Rico, and the largest Hispanic bank in the United States. It is classified as one of the top 100 banks nationwide. Its subsidiaries are also considered top-rated, with a customer base that grows each year.

I don't think is a bank for illegals.. too bad people think that way.... same as when people see you speak Spanish they thinks you are mexican......
more info on the "bank for illegals".

I was wrong. The ACORN portion was supposedly removed before it went before the house.

I got an email from dave ramsey's newsletter with some pretty good idea's earlier today. I posted it in my blog with some comments. Man I think the last thing we need right now is more debt.

From my reading on it my opinion is this is a free market - balance of risk vs. reward. This bail-out is simply removing the risk factor and helping out the guys causing the problem. I'm a small business owner and as most businesses have recently I've taken a hit because of these economy problems. No one is going to step in and give money to keep me afloat! "So the lesson here is if your going to mess up, mess everything over so royally you put the economy of the entire nation at risk. Then the government will step in a fix it for you?" - Steven Colbert (just from memory, it was pretty close to that)

I despise both of those and believe they're equally as ignorant.

I do wish they'd do something for small businesses and mom-n-pop shops. Being a SBO, what could the government do that could actually help you? Tax incentives (pay less taxes due to losses incurred)? One-time payment of $10,000?

I honestly think the only thing that will help SBO is if we can turn this thing around...

All I have to say is that it is shameful in a democracy (representational or not) to ignore the vox populi. The public reaction over the past week has been more then clear, enough to have the biggest effect on a vote that would have otherwise passed then I can ever remember. The fact that our representatives continue to push this through against the will of the people is, as I said, shameful.

1 thing 4 sho':

It's so crowded trying to say SAY NO to the Congress that their email form robot has a waiting line. Nevermind calling, it's busy.

It's wiping up the blood off the floor without trying to help the guy who's been stabbed in the neck. The underlying problems are still there, and that means it will all happen again. And why not? Uncle will surely bail us out again!

It's enough to make you want to vote Libertarian. Too bad that's the same as voting socialist/democrat.

Hey here's an idea: if you don't operate your mega business by getting loans, the credit market means diddly to you. Here's another: if your salesman is pitching a mortgage-backed security that (literally) required a math PHD to invent, don't buy it. See? How hard was that?

Vote for ME!

What do you mean both of those?

man, what could they do to help sbo's holy crap! man I could type about that for hours. Mainly though most small business owners feel like the government doesn't give a crap about them. Which generally is true. This country was built with the idea that a free market was the best way to go. If government would say out (except to correct illegal practices) things would be way better. Government gives money to large companies all the time. I don't want to start the walmart fight but thats a prime example. Man if they'd give me 1/2 the money they gave walmart to move in and compete with me I'd be the next dell!

Look at all the taxes government at all levels have for small businesses. I have to pay my accountant ~50 to do my sales tax quarterly, do you know how much the state reimburses me? ~7 dollars. I have to pay for unemployment, city licenses, extra tax for running a business in the city. When I have employee's and have to fire them the city fights for them! Even if they were horrible employee's or where only supposed to be temporary employee's.
