- Music today is just loud crap with glitzy dresses.
- Cars today are just overweight ugly boats.
- Houses today are cookie cutter cardboard boxes.
- Magazines today are all just garbage nobody knows how to read anymore.
- Fashion today is just a cascade of style the TV told you to wear, true style and class are dead.
- Beer today is just crappy calorie containers.
- The art of cooking is lost on this generation.
I could go on all night. For some reason no matter what far distant land of the internet I travel I find the same common trend. People complaining about how music, cars, houses, etc today are all crap compared to the glory days.
So HA debate... are the above statements true or not true?

Music- I listen to old music ALL THE TIME. I agree, music was better long ago but it's still there to listen too and I think more young people than you think are listening to older stuff like the Beatles, Stones etc... I doubt many are listening to Mozart or Opera, but not all of them are listening to Justin Beiber and Lady Gaga.
Cars- Enough said.
Houses- Nothing is stopping you from buying a 100 year old house. I've worked on those houses, they are built WELL and will not fall down, but normally contain no insulation in the walls, don't have a/c or the means to install a/c, HAVE asbestos and lead pipes and old crappy wiring. Not to mention I have yet to see one with straight floors and walls. Strict safety codes did not exist back then like they do today.
Magazines- They still make magazines??? Really?? I have the internet.
Fashion- I own 2 pairs of shorts, 2 pairs of jeans, and a bunch of t-shirts. I'll leave this one alone as I have NO fashion sense.
Beer- You must live in the USA?? Visit Canada. Enough said.
Cooking- The guy working the grill at Five Guys seems to know what he's doing?

me and the wife were actually talkin about this a couple days ago
well the house part anyways
we came to the conclusion that back in the day houses were built with the idea of the family living there forever
built to withstand multiple generations of kin
now a days people move every few years so people dont buy with the intention of there future generations living there
think about it (not tryin to bring up memories/emotions) if your mom/dad passed and left you there house, would you move in with your brothers and sisters? most would take the house, sell it, and split the money between siblings
they were also built with easily replaceable materials. I cant put up drywall worth a sh*t, but i can definitely replace a rotted 2x4
which brings up another notion, houses dont even use 2x4s anymore they are built using waferboard and other cheap materials
my old house in chicago was built in the 1920s, it was made of brick and oak, sure it made sounds when walkin across the floors, but i bet you i could hold a WWE match in the living room and the floor wouldnt even budge

i agree w/ most of this aside from the beer-... beer is having a rennisance. more and more people are pushing away from bud miller coors and stepping towards craft brews. this could also be part of a hipster fad or the "local" fad, but i feel that enough people are willing to experiment w/ beer. i know i've never turned down trying a beer-... some of which i knew i was going to hate just by the style or ingrediants, but i try them anyways and sometimes i'm delightfully surprised.
houses-... ^there's a good point above about old materials. part of the difference between new and old is that back then they didn't have the tools that we do today-... tools that are way faster but horribly inaccurate! in a time where contractors have nearly competed themselves out of bussiness, the actual craftsmen are left looking for work.
fashion-... i have a few disagreements here. put on a pair of casual slacks a button down shirt and a decent pair of dress shoes. you'll still look great and "fit in" in almost any situation-... it worked for the amish for how many years now? it's a timeless look and very easy to add persoanl touches that will help you stand out w/o visually shouting that you're there.

Just wait until HKC gets in here...
But I was having the same thoughts on this subject. I suspect it's just fat nostalgia; every generation has shittier morals and more stuff than the one that precedes it.

Because profit. Every time a company decides it wants more profit, it takes money out of quality. Doesn't matter if you talk about cars, clothes or music.

My thoughts on it is this generation is jacked up. Kids don't have there own style anymore they're bringing back older styles of clothing and haircuts and don't have any moral values anymore. I grew up being taught to b an individual and work hard for what u want and believe in! I look at kids today and they dress the same, act the same, and feel like somebody owes them something.
As for cars I love my foreigns but I'm more in love with old Cadillacs lol. I look at classic cars and just think they don't make them like that anymore. Big and metal!
As music goes I stick to old skool and underground. Music from back in the day was about being different, artist making music they enjoy, and pushing the envelope. Now it all sounds the same to me I call it disco rap lol
