Does anyone here belong to a union for their job? How much are the dues and does the union do anything to help you as an individual?

 

Local 12 Operating Engineers. I get paid more than the non-union guys in town. I also have a pension, great health insurance, life insurance and paid vacation. Yes, I earn it. I can run circles around at least 95% of the non-union operators in Vegas. How? Because I went through the apprenticeship program. 6,000 hours of on-the-job training plus 2 years of classroom training.



The dues are about $300/year.

 

Ive been in the carpenters union, and now in CUPE union ..Its a love / hate relationship...You have backup to protect your rights, but, your wages are written in stone.
