I was just sitting here thinking about something. Do you think people who were unpopular growing up are more successful in life now than people who had alot of friends and were really popular?

What if Bill Gates was voted prom king and wasnt so dorky in school? Would there be a microsoft? Does being unpopular in society push people to become great scientific minds? The people I went to school with were super popular have just regular ordinary jobs now. But the kids who didnt have alot of friends are making tons of money. What do you all think?

I think it depends on your definition of successful.

Popular people go far in politics, and in fields like sales, real estate, and management, but a lot of people who are popular don't really gain any useful skills because they were able to coast through everything if they weren't very motivated people.

People who were unpopular it's often because they think there is more important stuff to do than worry about social interaction, so they usually go fairly far career wise, ending up as engineers, biologists, software engineers, or something like that. Those careers are respectable and pay the bills better than most jobs, but still aren't really super awesome. I think that it's the exceptional (or exceptionally lucky) people that make it truly far like billionaire status, and they can get there either by their charisma and popularity or their own personal innovations.
