Wheel Making Wierd Niose
O.K on my wifes tib, normally when taking a corner(left) the back wheel on the passenger side(RHD car) starts to make a sorta metal rubbing sound, like something is scraping, the brake pads arn'nt warn as they have not been on that long, i was thinking it maybe wheel bearings, what would you guys suggest.
If it is wheel bearings is this something i could sort out myself.
Any one got any ideas?

rear wheel bearings are extremely easy on our cars.. the hub and bearings come as one piece, so it is just a matter or removing the wheel, brake caliper, mounting bracket for the caliper, and the rear rotor (disc) then the hub... installation is opposite of removal.
If you do not own a torque wrench, buy or rent one... and you will need a new cotter pin for the castle nut that holds the hub on.

The bearings usually hum for quite a while before they fail. Ask your wife if she has noticed any strange humming sounds coming from the rear of the car. If that doesn't do it then have a close look at the brake rotors. Sometimes you get a build-up of rust that causes some noise. You just have to tap the rust off with a hammer. It flakes right off. Just make sure you are wearing eye protection.

Dude she has her tunes that loud when she drives you could drop a MOAB behind her and she would'nt hear it. I think she only heard it by chance when one of her cd's came to an end.
I'm gonna take the wheel off some time today and have a closer look.
O.K. took wheel off and had a look, i set it up so i could leave the hand brake off, i cleaned away any rusty crap, the pad on the out side has loads on it the inside one well i could'nt tell what it was like, i don't think it 's the bearings now as the niose was coming from the brake, could'nt get the caliper off and did'nt want to force anything so i'm taking it to the garage, that way if somthing breaks when they remove it, they will have to put it right wink1.gif
