Saved up enough cash for a really nice down payment for a home and I'm starting to look around now. I'm in Dallas and I was wondering how it compares to other areas.

 

It shouldn't be a big deal ether way, the money should come from escrow not pocket.

Ours is 1% of property value, which is good and bad. Last year we had to pay just north of 2k due to the value of the property despite paying much, much less. Granted we expected as much and had the sum in escrow the cover. Most places should allow you to challenge that amount if you paid less for your home, but in our county the date of dispute is through April and we didn't even receive our letter until May. This year it's been corrected.
