I dont follow politics or really pay much attention to what happens in Washington DC but this seems to be big in the news. if the government shuts down, does that basically mean that anyone who is a government employee (postal workers, etc) will no longer receive a paycheck or have to work? Is this just federal or will state and county governments close too? I guess I'm looking for cliff notes or Government Shut Down For Dummies so that I can better understand what this is all about.

This should help! Saw this on CNN this morning when I came into work. It explains everything about it in very general laymen's terms.

Basically, it means that money has not been approved for the government to operate. Essential personnel will still go to work. Non-essential services will be cut. As a biomedical equipment technician, I will not be affected. I will go to work as normal, and I will receive a pay check whenever they approve funding. Some staff, like secretaries or accounting personnel will just stay at home until told to come back to work. There are a few auxilliary services which will be affected. It is my understanding that all security personnel are essential.

Sucks for military since some of them may not get a paycheck at all, or late.

Remember folks, the Democrats in Congress refused to do their (legally mandated/required) job and REFUSED to even present a budget last year because it was an election year. This was the inevitable result.

This mess is because there is no money appropriated to run the government for things they are currently doing. They are arguing over the budget for next WEEK when they should be talking about next YEAR.

Also be aware: the resistance to getting a budget extension is STILL from the Democrats because they don't want to cut their budget even though everything/everybody/you already had to cut your budget during the Great Recession.

This is no accident... America, desrtroyed by design. We The People would never except globalization until we are desperate... problem, reaction, solution. Engineer or take advantage of a problem, wait till the reaction from the people(something must be done) then offer the solution that just happenes to be the planned result all along. The poeple are duped again, global elite say thank you very much may I have some more.

I blame obama and his unwillingness to accept the lack of backing for his health care program. They want to cut that out of the budget... He wants other things cut.
