I'm looking to sell my 2K1 Accent to get a Tibby. I'm having a hell of a time with the local dealers here in michigan, all they want to give me is $5K or less and I still owe $7500. Any recommendations for selling it out and which channels I might go through?

How many miles do you have on it? What is the blue book trade in value? What is the Blue Book Private party value? (www.kbb.com)

Once we know that, we can better advise you.

Lastly....When taking it to the dealer to trade it in...remove all the mods. Stereo, speakers...everything. Bone stock cars are worth more to dealers than modified cars.

Then with the aftermarket stuff you have on your car, I see why they only want to give you $5000 for it. Remove all the aftermarket stuff and sell it. Return it to stock (you kept all of your old parts...RIGHT?)...then keep haggling with the dealer till you get between 5400 and 6450. If the dealership won't budge...keep your car and save your pennies. Any money you make on the aftermarket part sales...use to pay off your loan value to get it closer to the $5000 the dealership is offering, so you at least end up with a trade/loan payoff that is equal.

Hey there,
I'm actually in the midst of doing that exact same thing. I still owe $11.5K on my Accent. But I had bought the 6yr/180000KM warranty, rust protection, scotch gaurd, front nose mask, and so on and so forth. Now that I'm switching for the Elantra, buying all that extra stuff is paying off. I'm getting most of the unused portions back as a credit...I'm not reapplying them to the Elantra but rather using them to keep my monthly payments down. As it stands right now I pay 360 a month for 5 yrs with 3 year remaining: on the Elantra it will cost me 475 or less for another 4 years. But I'm still negotiating with the dealership...
Sometimes you just have to bite the bullet, and go for it. But if you let out long enough the dealership will cave, that's the name of the game.
