do not get me wrong.. hondas ARE reliable.. bit not any more or less than Toyota and Honda... Toyotas do not have the resale value of honda either. Right now the other H is riding a wave of popularity... MOST of the kids want one because of all the cool stuff you can get for them. Even if only 10% get an engine swap... how many people dream of doing one?

 

yea, but the mod factor isnt the ONLY reason for the high resale value.

 

Toyotas have a high resale value too. Don't forget that.

 

I know that... but the prices reflect the demand.. Honda typically sells to a younger crowd.. Toyota to an older.. no matter how many sports cars they put out... MR2, Supra, Celica... the average age of their buyers is in the thirties... Honda is lower... This is why Toyota brought out the scion badge.. to try and capture some of the Youth market.

 

it all takes time, give a few years when everyone see's that our hyundai engines are still running strong then the resale will go up. its unfortunate of the recent past of hyundai vehicles of about 10 years and longer. How many older hyundais do you see still running? honda? toyota? nissan? its just gonna take time to reverse the hyundai stereotype, and they will see when our beta motors are pushin 250k ....

ok.. want to see how long it can take? I know you guys hate hearing about my italian cars.. but... My fiat for instance. Five years ago I could pick up a decent spider 2000 for about the same amount of money.. $2000. Today, the top end spiders are beginning to bump ten grand.. some even higher. One, a 1985.5 (last production run) with only 5,000 miles went for 30,000 on ebay.. now remember.. that is an almost 20 year old car.. it might take a LONG time for older hyundai's to acheive parity... however, look at the bright side.. I doubt your car can depreciate any worse over the next few years unless you really beat on it.
