Default Tough Decision(need your help)

Hey guys I could really use your help here. I own a Lanos and because of its unfortunate demise, I'm now not sure whether I
should sell it and get a new car or keep it. I spent a lot on my car as far as performance parts go, so whetever car I get would have to
have a big aftermarket following. The main cars I'm considering are the Focus ZX3, the Suzuki Aerio sedan and the 2003 Tiburon, obviously the first two are lower in price which is attractive to me, but do you have any opinions on
these cars? Or do you think I should keep my car, holding out hope that GM will ressurect the Lanos(even though its successor the Kalos
is scehduled to debut in 2004). Like I said before, I spent a lot on my car and I love it, but I would prefer having a car that maintains
at least some sort of relevance in the
aftermarket, that's why I'm hoping that GM comes to their senses and brings it back. My budget
is 10000-12000 so any help you can give on this matter is appreciated. Thanks again.

Personally, I can't stand the fukus. I'd reccomend a yugo or Geo Metro first.

The suzuki Aero looks good, and has good numbers on paper, but it has less aftermarket support that daewoo does. Look elsewhere.

The new 2003 Tibby is a decent choice, but, limited aftermarket support (compared to Honda, mitsu, etc), and it's also outta your price range ($12,000).

That basically means you've got to look into an accent, or go used.

There are a BUNCH of options if you want to go used.
Mitsu Eclipse
Mitsu Galant VR4
Nissan Maxima (since the new one came out, the resale on the older ones has really dropped)
Nissan 240sx
Of couse there's always the staple of the market, Civic Si or Integra GS-R or Type-aRggg

It's just a question of how important warranty is to you. Most serious mods will screw a warranty, so you might as well go used. Besides, if you pick up say a $6000 used car, you can keep the daewoo as a daily driver, and use the other car as a "project" car.

Mitsu Galant VR4
I read an interesting article about how in it's time the Galant VR4 was better in it's time than the low power Lancer is now.

Spend $2000-3000 on a nice condition CRX. That's my opinion on buying cars.

OK OK, if I had to pick between a Ford Focus and a Suzuki Aerio I would pick the Aerio 100 times out of 100.

Thanks for the suggestions, at this point I'm still weighing my options, but I will look into those cars. Thanks

Ditto!

Don't get me wrong, the Fukus wins awards and get glowing reviews from the automotive press, but I just can't stand the way it looks. It's just my personal opinion. If you like the Fukus, but all means, get one. They are a decent value for the $$$.

Perhaps it's time for an ecotec swap? smile.gif

Actually, what I'd look into... see, we don't know your financial situation. Are you still paying for this car? If not, I'd hang on to it (since dealers won't give you squat for it) and use it as a project, and buy something cheap and reliable, maybe an Accent or the base Tib. Then, take the money you'd otherwise have spent on a higher car payment and start accumulating parts, maybe to fix your stock engine, maybe to get a Euro market Opel engine... I heard on the DaewooTuner board on Yahoo that there are "type 3" 2.0 engines floating around that are 185HP N/A for the Opel.. Corsa? something like that, and are a driect bolt in for a Nubira, and wouldn't be incredibly difficult for a Lanos.

Bar none, what you have now is an excellent platform for an engine swap. That, and a few suspension parts from Australia (they have a Lanos racing series... imagine that smile.gif and you're all set to kill anything short of a C5.

Well, you can go for the UK experience if you like smile.gif
The Daewoo cars are basicly old Euro GM bodies & engines. They bought all the old moulds and stuff for the Mk3/4 Vauxhall Astra and the Mk4 Vauxhall Cavalier(I might have got the versions wrong, but you get the idea).

Very little has changed between the GM & Daewoo models.... So you can get all the UK tuning parts shipped out to the USA, just remember to look for Astra/Cavalier parts...

Thanks, I'm starting to think I should keep my car....BTW is there any chance at all that the Lanos 3dr will be back in the US in some way(besides the Kalos/Aveo)? It would make may decsion a whole lot easier.
