Raced a chevy Caviler all stock 2004 manuel. I drive a 99 tib auto with headers and exhaust. HE beat me!
Is that common? He has a bigger engine 2.2. mines a 2.0. The question is how come he beat me? What do I need to do to be faster at accel

if you drive a RD2 auto Im not suprised you got whooped, the auto boxes in RD2s are crap and dont have the 'let's simulate manual and go 5800 rpm before shifts' power mode switch on the shifter surround.

My nan could run faster.

Edit h, and i dont know if you were on the track or not but if you were street racing...

street racing is for assholes.

My friends sister was killed by a shithead racing his friend.. He lost control and mounted the sidewalk crushing her into a wall and nearly killing her mother.

Her mothers whole side was ripped open and she will never walk properly again, mind you Im sure that pails in significance with the years of torture she has had since remembering what happened.

It was my friend's sister's 13th birthday and they were in london shopping.

sorry. but what the hell were you doing on a track with an auto RD2?

Mind you, letting people beat you by the sound of it lmao.gif (joke)

If you want to risk your trans and can get it right there is a way of getting the limiter to kick on.. but its dangerous.

Stick it in 1.. Pull away (not too hard itll spin) and then when you start to hit about 5500 RPM push it into 2, do the same and then go into D. Get it wrong and youll hit the rev limit and thrash the crap out of the trans lmao.gif

Get it right and youll get a good accel. but youll possibly NEVER compete with a manual anything, even a cavvy.

Oh, get a CAI and good wires and plugs. They made the world of difference to my RD1.

I just put some headers on it and got my tranny overhauled so I thought that I would have a chance. Im a noob to cars if you cant tell. And...I don't want to risk my tranny. My car has speed just no accel. Is that the only thing I can do??

should I have the ect on at all times.

and will shifting like that screw my tranny

yeah youre pretty much out of options mate 02.gif

On the RD1 there is a switch on the trans shifter shroud, it says ECT and PWR.

Quote Manual : ECT, if you would like to preserve fuel use this mode. Offers slower acceleration for better gas milage.

PWR : If you would like to drive your Tiburon in power mode use this toggle, setting switch to 'on'.
This will offer high speed acceleration for more brisk driving lmao.gif

It's something like that, I remember readin my manual at work one day and laughing out loud because basically what it was saying was

"If you want to thrash the shit out of your tib and use more gas but go like shit off a shovel switch the trans out of pussy mode and into more manly mode"

lmao.gif

Apparently this was removed from the RD2 to save build cost.

So, if it has to be auto get an RD1 lmao.gif

Auto trannys will never be fast in 1/4. swap it out for manual. or spend $$$ to build it to a racing tranny and turbo you car then you will be fast.
