Thinking Of Selling The Tib
Didn't know where else to post it. The car is getting old and I may decide not to keep it past this year.
Still on the fence. My logic is as follows (I know everyone here is gonna scream keep the tib, but my logic is sound).
To make the Tiburon presentable and performing to my standards I will need to invest $4000, more than 70% going towards bodywork. The car needs fenders, a hood, bodywork on the gas panel and a paintjob and other things like headers etc.
Im not going to get much of that money back. If I sell the parts I have on now and car itself, I should be able to get ~$4300 for it. I will still need to spend $800 to get the body looking decent enough to sell.
I will have the following for sale IF I decide:
1) Apexi N1 Exhaust (#10 of 10 sold by Rick)
2) AIRRAM
3) RSide 61mm Throttle Body
3) RoJa Gunmetal 17inch rims (14lbs) with Kumho ASX rubber
4) Tiburon R-Type Side Skirts from Korea
5) PRD coated Wires used for 2000 miles (look like they were just unwrapped)
6) Maybe some smaller items
I can use the $3500 I get from the sale plus the $4000 I would have invested otherwise towards a downpayment towards a newer car when I sell later this year.
At the same time, I could invest the $4000 into the Tib and not have to worry about depreciation and literally run it into the ground.
Here's hoping for some neutral, unbiased suggestions. But then again, this is RDtiburon wink1.gif
NO DIBS for any parts. I will have a seperate For Sale post for items.

well, thats the bad thing about hyundai's you the resell value is crap. and you never get the money you put in upgrading any car.
but if you do decide, to sell i'm sure you won't have any problems selling those parts.

Screw, I'm sorry to hear that man. Same thing for me, car is creaking and getting old, and it's DEF not worth investing another penny. But I still love this car. I will not part with it easily. I was thinking of getting a new Tiburon, but I don't like their design much and if I bought one I would have to get rid of all those government standards. Exhaust, Airbox, Headers...
Primarily, i'm feeding off of the feeling this car gave me when i first saw it. second, it had an awsome rally car version which competed against the world's top drivers. not many people can say their car flew in the air on Fafe Jump in Portugal going excess speeds, or have ploughed like a pig into rivers of water in China desperately trying to beat time... That era still lives with me.
I suggest you're safest keeping your car... but if you decide to get another one, you will have to be normal again and it will cost you even more to throw out everything restrictive which will be making the new car slow.

no dibs added after I had posted. at least let me know if you do so I can get it
I would have to go with trading it for an RD2, becaus ethen you can keep a lot of these pieces and put them on there.

HKC, you're right. But I might go for a different genre of car. I was thinking a used Audi TT 3.2 Quattro or a friends NSX he's selling.
The Tiburon is a great car. Definately not typical and there's nothing ordinary about it. Problem is I get no respect (Im often laughed at because of the need of a paintjob and because it's getting old).
BTW, I'm not worried about any of the parts selling. (Most of my parts are extremely desirable). Rest assured, I will post when it's time.

Honestly, you already made this choice when you decided to start modding an older tiburon. Tibs have crappy resale values. When you start modding a car like this, you basically are deciding to keep it until it dies.
From knowing you on the boards the past few months I know you've done a lot of maintenance work on the tib, and added a lot of aftermarket engine parts, so the state of the engine your tib has now is better than it was when you bought it probably.
With $4000, you could easily do a little more maintenance work to ensure the tib is reliable (fuel filter, timing belt package, change all fluids, etc) and at the same time get your skirts put on plus a full paint job. With all that your tib would be lookin' hot, and the engine, as stated before, is pretty strong. No reason to waste all the time and money you've put into your tib thus far and give up now.
If Hyundais had a higher resale value, and you already know you'll find buyers for the rare-aftermarket parts, I'd say go for it, but you're going to be losing lots of time, money, and effort by selling the tib now. There's my "logic" wink1.gif
In the end, you have to think, if you put all this money into the tib ... 3-5 years down the road, picture your tib in the condition you feel it will be in, will you be happy with that? Or would you rather have something else?
Because by all means, if you're not going to be happy with the tib later, stop NOW. Your call, logic and "worth" can be skewed to support either side, but in the end you have to decide if you're going to be happy having the tib. smile.gif

You know Zoned, you're right. The engine has great compression now, runs like a new car would - literally and is ultimately reliable. I guess my main obstacle is having a white collar job and having my colleagues drive Mazda6s, Infinitys and Benz, whereas I'm the guy with the old, beat up Hyundai.
I will get a decent amount from the parts and I will MAKE money on the sale of the car (I paid $1000 even for it). So I will still break even on this if I turn around. At the same time, if I get a new car, I'm gonna put 20k miles a year and it will depreciate alot.
Ugh! This is a hard decision.
