The state government has released the Drink Driving in Queensland Discussion Paper, which canvasses dropping the general alcohol limit from 0.05 to 0.02 in a bid to cut the state's shocking road toll.
"In 2009, there were 71 fatalities involving alcohol on our roads, which equated to 21.5 per cent of the entire road toll in Queensland," Premier Anna Bligh said in a statement.

I noticed that like all politicians, she didn't mention the most important statistic, probably because it would undermine her whole argument. That statistic is how many of the 71 fatalities involved someone with a BAC of between .02 and .05? This is the number of people that could have potentially been saved by the new law... not 71. I'm guessing something between none and one. As in the US, most drunk drivers involved in fatal accidents are almost double the legal limit.

haha oh yeah, I should have known regular alcohol content is always higher overseas. I saw a special on travel channel, and the impression I got was they have lots of bars and pubs, like in England.

Few beers? One Australian beer would put you at .02
haha fo sure
.05 for an average size male is 2 STANDARD drinks in the first hour, followed by 1 STANDARD drink every hour after that
Drivers on probation (so the first 2 years of your license) are not allowed to have ANY alcohol in their system at all
oh and speaking as a forensic chemist, cough medicine wont show in your BAC at all....it will show in a hand held breathalyzer, but they only give the cops an indication of how long ago your last drink was
so if you had a swig of cough medicine b4 driving and got pulled over for an RBT and got a reading of over 0.05 then you would prob be asked to wait for 10-15 minutes if you told them that you had just taken some medicine
the way that it happens in Aus is a police officer can get a breath test from you even if they dont suspect you've been drinking...if its at 0.05 or greater then they will take a blood test or an official accurate breath test and work back at a rate of 0.016 to the time of the offense
oh and that is all bullshit....its just pre-election hype/"look we are actually thinking about maybe doing something one day" bs
plus im in WA (the other side of the country) so i dont give a flying f*ck what they do in QLD lol
