Hi guys,
I am in the Motor Spares Business.
I have thousands of different type of parts.
Till now we have not done stock as it is family run.
But we are having problems as business is expanding.

I have a degree in Internal Auditing and have experienced using PASTEL.
I want a system that can do the following.

1. Can read barcodes created by me ( I assume i have to get a barcode machine)

2. Can print invoices (and update the stock as it is sold)

3. Can set a reorder qty (So when items are reduced to this qty it will make a note to reorder)

For now that is all i can think about.

Can someone please help?

Thanks

Sounds like you need just an inventory control system. There are a ton out there on the market for things like this.

My question to you is this, are you looking for a home grown app or a commercial app? What is the size of your inventory, how many different parts are you going to stock. Are you going to cross reference them? How many terminals are you going to want to run this on? What type of reports do you want to run?

I may be able to help, just have to know the scope you are looking at.

Hey Bullfrog.
I knew someone here could help smile.gif

Well we are stocking maybe 6000+ different types of stock.
We dont need cross referencing.
Just need a barcode system that will just do the stock counting and print monthly figures.
Like an accounting system for stock and for Small Medium Enterprises.

Simple reports.
Nothing hectic.

I want a system that wont need the internet to be online.
Hope this helps

Where is your degree in Internal Auditing from? Not many universities offer a degree, LSU is one of the few.

Since you're familiar with Internal Audit, use Microsoft Word for your invoices (or Quicken/Quickbooks). Just keep track of documentation and ensure all invoices are prenumbered.

For barcode information, start here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barcode_printer
http://www.idautomation.com/barcoding4beginners.html

You'll need software to generate barcodes, and of course a scanner that reads them. I don't think actual barcode printers are that expensive.

A basic inventory software package should give you what you need. The ability to print barcodes, scan them, and have the software easily identify what was scanned.

The inventory software would probably have to have user set guidelines to initiate a request for re-order, or preferrably PROMPT the user to reorder.
