Girl, 15, Found Dancing At 2nd Club

Police: Owner Allowed Girl, 15, To Dance In Club

DETROIT -- The Club Onyx on Detroit's west side was raided Monday night after police learned that the same underage girl who was caught dancing topless at a now closed club was currently dancing there.Police went to the nightclub on Joy and Greenfield roads Monday night after hearing that the 15-year-old dancer was working there. The girl was removed from the club and put into a police car.Police arrested a manager at Club Onyx. No charges had been brought as of Tuesday evening, but police spokesman John Roach said the club could be shuttered and the manager could be charged with child sexually abusive activity. The 15-year-old they found was the same girl who at age 14 was performing at All Stars Lounge on 8 Mile Road in April, Roach said.Earlier this year, the girl's mother discovered she had been working at the club and called police. On Monday, All Stars Lounge was officially padlocked and will remain closed for a year. Neighbors said they were happy to learn the club, which has caused a lot of trouble, was closed."Homeowners up and down the street were complaining about their cars being trashed. The prostitution in the car … the club closes at 2 and they could watch the prostitution taking place," the resident said. The club's manager, Andrew Hutson, 31, was in court Tuesday and ordered to stand trial. He was charged with child sexually abusive activity. He is due back in court on July 27.The charge is a 20-year felony."It is sickening by itself that this defendant allegedly knowingly allowed a child to dance in his establishment," Detroit Police Chief Warren Evans said.A message was left Tuesday with Hutson's lawyer Marc Hart, who has said his client had nothing to do with girl's hiring. Under questioning from Hart, the girl said in court she had danced at two other clubs before All Stars.Club Onyx likely will face similar action as All Stars, Roach said.Just last Thursday, Roach said, police had met with Club Onyx's owner and staff to remind them that Detroit rules require performers to have a city-issued dance card. The girl, Roach said, didn't have such a card. He said he didn't know whether she had presented the club with any other form of ID.Club Onyx has operated as a strip bar for several years, Roach said. The area just around the club has been problematic for police in recent years, with one fatal shooting and three or four nonfatal shootings, he said. Girl Has Troubled Past.

The girl, whose name was not released because of her age, was being held at a youth home on a probation violation from a prior truancy issue. The girl’s mother, who asked not to be identified, said she has had a hard time controlling her daughter -- and that her daughter often sneaked out of the house at night. The mother said she didn’t know where her daughter was until someone told her they saw her daughter at the club."She had no clothes on and some kind of dance clothes on. She's only 14 years old!” the mother said. She also said the girl suffers from mental disabilities.Evans said she would turn over most of the money to the club for the privilege of dancing and to tip the DJ and other employees.
