i'm in ontario canada, if anyone has dealt with this before some advice would be nice.
got railed with doing 98km/h in a 60 zone....ticket is under $300 but there's 4 demerit points that could go on my license. anyone have any advice on going about this? i intend to fight it.

I advise going about the roads more slowly than 150% the posted limits and avoiding the situation in the future. This time you might just have to take your medicine.
Wow ^ THAT guy's a jerk! For the record, I got tired of breaking the law, tired of looking over my shoulder afraid of the cops, and tired of paying speeding tickets, but I did have my share. Not +50% over the limit but close.

I remember the days of speeding, getting lawyers and all of that crap... now I just stick within around 10-20% of the speed limit and don't drive like an a**hole.
Between 17-20, I probably spent 1000$ on lawyers to get me out, had my license suspended (at night for 6 months) and high insurance from 8-12 points.... it was totally not worth the 'being cool' or getting somewhere 5 minutes faster.
Granted, when I had my srt-4, in the middle of nowhere, I got it WAYYYYYYYYYYY past the speed limit, but i was probably the only vehicle around for miles.. still stupid, but it was a very rare occasion.
61mph in a 37mph zone is pretty high.. the likely hood of you getting out of it scott free is very slim.
you either suck it up (fighting it on your own is probably a lost cause)
or spend 500$ or so on a lawyer who may be able to get you off on some type of impeding traffic charge (not sure how strict canada is) impeding traffic is 0 points in the US and you would still have to pay some type of ticket on top of the lawyer.

actually guys it was rather questionable. it was at a speed change from 60 to an 80, i believe i was in the 80. also i did look at my speedometer right before and saw 85.
it was a quick post, i didn't feel like explaining. thanks for jumping the gun and calling me a jerk without knowing any details stocker. great job.
i have no problem paying for what i did. i do have a problem paying for what i didn't do.
i was hoping for some advice, but if all i'm going to get is flamed just delete the thread already.

Haha, I was calling me a jerk!
I'm not seeing any flames here yet, and 85 is still over 80 so . . .
If you end up in court, it's very likely the officer is going to say you were wherever the speed limit is lower when they hit you with the radar, and the judge is probably going to believe them.
P.S. if you want advice, generally speaking putting all the details right up front will be more helpful than giving half the story and then reacting to exactly what you should expect when people only get the half of the story you gave them

On the interwebs everybody is on their high horse and nobody ever speeds. Nobody ever saw a speed limit that was just ridiculously small. And nobody noticed that the cops always monitor exactly those places where the limits are unreasonably small and it's actually safe to go faster (rather than monitoring places where it's actually dangerous to break the speed limit), for obvious reasons.
Not sure about Canada, but in US it makes sense to pay $500 for a traffic lawyer which will usually get you out of it (or get you a decent deal) just because of the insurance increase. In any case, even if you don't get a lawyer, ALWAYS fight it. You might get a deal, or you might even get lucky and get out of it. You won't get anything worse than the ticket. Plus it sounds like you actually have a good argument if the limit was 80. A ticket for 95 in 80 is bound to be cheaper and/or carry less points than a 95 in 60. Though if it comes down to your word against the officer's you will probably lose..
