XK-2 aka Black Panther (Korean: 차기ì*„ì°¨ XK-2 'í‘표') is the Republic of Korea's recently revealed prototype for a next-generation main battle tank. XK-2, or eXperimental K2, was developed by the Agency for Defense Development (ADD) of South Korea with purely indigenous technology, and will be the successor to the K1 series main battle tanks. The Black Panther is in its final design phase, and will see its initial production by 2008 or 2009, with the ROK Army planning to field approximately 1500 to 1700 XK2 battle tanks starting in 2011. The letter "X" will be dropped from its type designation number once the experimental stage is complete.

The ability to lower the tank means less likelyhood of being spotted when stopped and waiting. Our tanks can't do that. That's the only advantage I saw over our M1s. Other then that It's an M1 Abrahams.
M1s were designed in 1970s, and it can't be the same or better than the newer one from 2007. it looks the same, but the korean one is totally different in everything. Looks can be deceiving LOL cool.gif

Yes it can. The M1a2 Abrams (a2 came out in the late 90's BTW) is still the best tank in the world. The Koreans don't want it because it's too wide for their roads and it's not a gasoline engine. Tank design doesn't change much, and the armor on the M1 is still the best in the world. THe only upgrades on THIS tank shown that aren't on a abrams are the controllable shocks, and that could VERY easily be retrofitted.
Active armor, target tracking, barrel stabilization, are all standard on most tanks around the world, and snorkling underwater has been around for 50 years.
That sucker even LOOKS like the M1.
The auto loader, that's not new, the russians have done that for decades. Only problem is, auto loaders jam, and UNLOADING a round is only possible by firing it first, which gives away your position.
Good looking tank, but nothing impressive.
