So there is a 2003 GT V6 for sale around me (Tib of course). Now I just want to look into a car for when I go away to school to run up and down the Parkway and AC Expressway. Pretty much, a commuter car. I love my Rd2 WAYYYYYYYY too much to push it to 100k within the next year. Well, this GT is pretty much standard. It has nothing special. It's the STANDARD GT. Auto too.

The private party value is $8,665.
The trade-in value is $6,350.

You know what this guys wants? 11,500.

Guess how many miles are on it to knock it down so much? .... 97,000. Apparently the girl who owns it bought it used and ran it up and down to Florida and north Jersey.

Wtf is wrong with people? My dad is on the phone with the girl's dad right now and he's going on and on about how KBB is completely wrong because a "friend" who works at a local dealership told him the car is worth 11,5. PFT.

... Haha now he told us it doesn't have the factory radio. It has some crappy JVC one in it. Greaaat.

This just added some hilarity to my day.

Well, it's because the simple fact that KBB is just downright MEAN to Hyundais. mad.gif

You'll think differently when it comes time to sell your Tib. I personally feel my car is worth more than KBB. You take a Civic with the same year, mileage, etc and compare and it's worth several thousand more. Is it a better car? No. It's like KBB basically determines resell value. Hyundai has really proven itself over the last 5 or 6 years...so why haven't resell values gone up?

Well... no, I think differently. When a dealer meets the KBB private party value (which is MORE than what happened with my Tib), then it's good. Some kid was selling a black Rd2 like mine but he spraypainted the interior blue and put a crapload of decals on it and asked for $10,000. No? I would have to pay about a grand to get all of that garbage off... maybe more if I had to get a new paintjob to fix his garbage. Plus it had about 50,000 miles. I know when I sell my car, I'll wind up selling it for about $3,000. I'm probably going to have to sell it in 2007 anyway, but by then it will be well paid off.

My dad and I sold our 97 Elantra GLS Wagon for only $1,000. The KBB value for its condition and value was $3500... yet we couldn't get a single response for a prospective buyer in 6 months. Pretty much, a car is worth what someone will give you for it. That GT was NOT worth 11,5. It had visible abrasions, that chrome-looking faded tinting on all of the windows (in NJ, that's illegal so you'd have to pay to get rid of it or get tickets), a CRAPPY head unit, 3,000 miles left until the warranty expires, and he admitted that there is some kind of fluid leak. So pretty much, in 3,000 miles if that car craps out... I'm screwed.
