Ok, thanks to a few hours of boredom... and surfing Wikipedia.com I found all this on Hyundai.
I found it really interesting... and I think that most of this is probably a repost...

HYUNDAI MOTOR COMP. is South Korea's largest car maker. headquartered in Yangjae-dong, Seocho-gu, Seoul, South Korea. It is also the world's sixth largest car maker and operates the world's largest integrated automobile manufacturing facility in Ulsan, South Korea. The Hyundai logo, a slanted, stylized 'H', is symbolic of two people (the company and customer) shaking hands and its official slogan is "Drive your way".

Hyundai means "modernity" in the Korean language.

Hyundai is a South Korean group of companies founded by Chung Ju-yung in 1947 as a construction company and was once South Korea's biggest conglomerate company (chaebol). The company split into five business entities on April 1, 2003 including Hyundai Kia Automotive Group, Hyundai Group, Hyundai Department Store Group and Hyundai Development Group.

"Hyundai" means "modernity" in Korean. It is often pronounced incorrectly as 'hun-day' in the U.S. and as 'high-oon-die' in UK and 'Hee-yun-day' in Australia. It is often mispronounced "Hyun-dai", with the "dai" pronounced phonetically, instead of "dae" (its correct pronunciation). The former was promoted as the company's official pronunciation: early U.S. advertising for the Hyundai Excel car told readers "It rhymes with Sunday". The correct Korean pronunciation, [çʌn.dɛ], has 2 syllables and sounds like 'hyun-deh' where 'hyun' rhymes with 'shun'. The exact transliteration into English from Korean (under the current system, revisions take place from time to time) should be "Hyeondae" rather than "Hyundai".

Before restructuring began in 2000, Hyundai's major areas of activity included shipbuilding, car manufacturing, construction, retailing, finance, and electronics. After its founder died in 2001, the component companies of Hyundai were split off into separate companies. Although divested of most of the high-profile Hyundai assets, the Hyundai Group still operates. Its most high-profile operation is Hyundai Asan, involved in numerous investment projects in North Korea. Other prominent assets include Hyundai Elevator, Hyundai Merchant Marine, Hyundai Logistics, Hyundai Heavy Industries, Hyundai Corporation, Hyundai Construction and Hyundai Securities. The current CEO is Hyun Chung-eun, widow of the late chairman Chung Mong-hun. Hyundai is also known for the manufacturing of motor vehicles in several countries; the U. S. has been a source market for these cars.

Chung Ju-yung founded the Hyundai Engineering and Construction Company in 1947. Hyundai Motor Company was later established in 1967. The company's first model, the Cortina, was released in cooperation with the Ford Motor Company in 1968. In 1975, the Pony, the first Korean car, was released, based on Japanese technology from Mitsubishi Motors. It was exported starting the next year.

In 1986, Hyundai began to sell cars in the United States, and the Excel was nominated 'Best Product #10' by Fortune magazine, largely because of its affordability. The company began to produce models with its own technology in 1988, beginning with the midsize Sonata.

Starting in 1998, Hyundai began to overhaul its image in an attempt to establish itself as a world-class brand. Chung Ju Yung transferred leadership of Hyundai Motor to his son, Chung Mong Koo in 1999. [1] Hyundai's parent company, Hyundai Motor Group, invested heavily in the quality, design, manufacturing, and long-term research of its vehicles. It added a 10-year or 100,000 mile warranty to cars sold in the United States and launched an aggressive marketing campaign.

Hyundai is now the fastest-growing auto brand in the United States and in 2004, it was ranked second in "initial quality" (not including the quality of body and engine parts) in a survey/study by J.D. Power and Associates. Hyundai is now one of the top 100 most valuable brands worldwide. Since 2002, Hyundai has also been one of the worldwide official sponsors of the FIFA World Cup.

In 2006, the South Korean government initiated an investigation of Chung Mong Koo's practices as head of Hyundai, suspecting him of corruption. On April 28, 2006, Chung was arrested, and charged for embezzlement of 100 billion won ($106 million USD), [2] with Hyundai Vice Chairman and CEO, Kim Dong-jin taking over as head of the company.

Actually, they've missed so much information. The Pony wasn't all Japanese technology. I recommend you guys reading MADE IN KOREA: Chung Ju Young and the rise of Hyundai.

The only reason English speakers cannot say Hyundai correctly, is because that our langauge doesn't include the "HY" sound in Hyundai. Whenever an English speaker tries to say it, he or she would say "Shunday" for some reason. ALot of English speakers who try to say it would say "HeeeYun".. but it's still "Hy". But so yeah.. I'l give someone 50 bucks if they say Hyundai correctly.
