I was taught as a kid to believe in Heaven, Hell, Judgement Day, God, Jesus, etc. But as I got older, the whole thing of Catholicism just didnt make sense to me. Now I dont really believe in any of it. I dont know what happens when we die, but alot of people think that everything just goes dark and thats it. I'm kinda starting to believe more of that theory. I guess that would be the Atheist way of thinking. But there are all those people who say when they die on an operating table, they see the white light, gates of Heaven, etc, and are revived to talk about it. What could that be all about then? And if there really is a Heaven, then how do you explain ghosts or spirits? I personally have witnessed spectral things happening in my friends house on many occasions. Enough that makes me not even want to go there that much.



Everyone has different beliefs. This thread isnt a thread to discuss which religioun or belief is best. I just want to know what you all believe in, whether other people agree or not.

 

What I think happens - You die. End of story. That's it.



What I hope happens - reincarnation. That would be freaking cool to come back as another living thing.

I guess there are few different questions here. Do you believe in Heaven/Hell? If so, what is it? Do you believe in existence after death? Do you believe in ghosts, spirits?



I'm a Christian. I don't know what to believe about the occurrences after death, but I do believe the Biblical statements about participating in The Kingdom of Heaven now.



It's amazing to me how many people I've talked with started their lives as "Catholic" and turn to atheist views later in life. I think there are several ways to "view" or "interpret" the Bible. Personally, I don't do it in line with Catholicism, closer to Protestant views but not traditional doctrines like Baptist, Nazarene, Methodist, etc.



I didn't grow up Christian. Didn't really read anything in the Bible until I was 17. Went to a Baptist church, ended up at a Nazarene University for a few years and enjoyed academic Biblical debate and interpretation. Jewish literature and meanings of numbers really bring a lot into the reading.

with reincarnation, I don't see how that could work. Even if it does, you wouldn't be aware of the previous lives or existences, so it sort of seems pointless.

 

I don't know what happens, but I am highly doubtful of a heaven and hell sort of arrangement.

What I think happens: You stand before God and are accountable for all of your sins (unless you allowed/asked Jesus to forgive them for you). And if you were righteous (through Jesus) you go to heaven to be phsyically with God, though you where connected to Him spiritually while on earth. If you didn't accept this gift you will be forever seperated from God. Sure there is fire and pain and whatnot, but what I couldn't image was being seperated from God.



As far as those 'after life experinces' I don't really believe in them. The brain is a VERY powerfull thing, dreams can feel so real and we can convince ourslefs of so may things. I do belive that lights are 'seen' and 'good feelings' are had, but thats it.



My guess on spirits/hauntings ect is that 90% of it is fake and purley for manking money/entertainment value. The rest is real spirits, good and evil. It's fine if you do or don't belive in spirits, but the Bible clearly states there is a heaven and sprits on earth.



If you do belive that we die and thats it, I gotta wonder what your motivation for living is or anything you do in life is, and what is your purpose in life? Is is stricly to better yourself and feel good for as long as you live?



As for my dead carcus, you can piss on it for all I care. I think it would be better off if it was studied or usefull if it could be, but I think a barriel is a HUGE waste of money for those living and I don't want to burden them with something I feel is pointless. Burn me, leave me to rot, I don't want to get anyone sick, but I really could care less what you do with my carcus.

 

What if your purpose for life is to live a relationship with God? What if a relationship with God and the Kingdom of Heaven is something you can participate in while you're alive, not somewhere you arrive when you die?
