ok I have been on and off always visiting this site, i love it. its a DIY one0one dream. Great people on the site too, so i figured i'd search the forums, didnt find anything for this topic.

I went to the Hyundai dealership today, seeing if they had any 411 on the genesis coupe, (i am stoked). and i asked him why they didnt just call the coupe the tiburon with a different line, and sure hes a sales guy, sales guy say things, but from what he had understood from a corperate guy... that they want to shut down the tiburon line all together. I was shocked, but i needed to know if anybody else had heard anything like this from hyundai, he said about 5 years...
thanks guys

you and the guy were misinformed. they didn't rename the '09 "tiburon" because of it's sluggish disgrace "break down cheapo plastic" reputation behind it. it's a new breakthrough era for hyundai and they dont want to associate their new products with the old laughable past. Although this hate doesn't exist anywhere else in the world but in the U.S.

the tiburon will be remade by Hyundai Europe and will be on par with Audi TT, infact it will be an iconic car like the TT, Mini, Beetle...etc. I read through a rare informative european article that confirms and quotes some of the european staff as saying Hyundai cannot have a universal face because there is one face in Europe and the rest of the world and there is a completely different face in only America. So they have to have two faces. Therefore the design center and in Irvine California and test track were built along with the two plants, while the European image was invested in Russelsheim, Germany.

The Hyundai CEO of Europe was quoted as saying something like they have turns, and it's their turn next time. If you ask me, those people are my kind of people.

When I read that, I became happy because for a second there I thought NASCAR took over speedvision. Oh wait, it did.

From an NT thread, according to discussion with the HMA District Sales Director in Fountain Valley...

QUOTE
- The Genesis coupe is listed on the model year chart at the building as a direct replacement for the GK for MY 2010. There is no 2009MY tiburon being made.

- He said that the current plan is to bring the Tiburon name back in the future as a smaller, lighter weight sports car after the Genesis is successfully introduced. Attitude within HMA right now is that Tiburon name brings poor connotations with it and they need something that can hang with the 350Z and Mustang in terms of name recognition.

Yah if you watch the unveiling of the Concept version of the Genesis Coupe, they clearly say that they will be continuing the Tiburon and that it has its own special path.

I seen in either Road & Track, or Car and Driver, about the Genesis.....They also mentioned the Tiburon, and said it isn't going anywhere.
