meh, if they do, then it will cost them BILLIONS of dollars in tourism money

A country can do what it likes with its own relics. I find it amusing the question is not being posed as "should islam be allowed to destroy the pyramids" because that is the real source of the question.
P.S. some of those buddhist statues were waaaaaaay more worthy of preservation as art works, and nobody seems to have cared too much about their destruction so . . .

Duh you silly goose the islamists own the government, which owns the military which owns the bombs and the jets. Fly a couple big "training" missions and your target practice AND pyramid bustin' is all taken care of!
