Could have interesting implications, as far as pulling the plug on people. And it looks like the idea of doctors are having to rethink their classifications of "vegetative".
A Canadian man who was believed to have been in a vegetative state for more than a decade, has been able to tell scientists that he is not in any pain.
Another Canadian patient, Steven Graham, was able to demonstrate that he had laid down new memories since his brain injury.

It really is something to be assessed on a case-by-case basis. Most people coming out of serious comas have a horrendous quality of life anyway.
Speaking of vegetative states,[list=1]
