Default RACER X MOTORSPORTS

Anyone remember awhile back when there was an ad in various magazines for potential sponsorships through RACER X MOTORSPORTS? It was even co-sponsored by Motorex, Fuzion market and a number of well heeled aftermarket, import companies.

The ad stated that a chance in getting a sponsorship of up to 50 grand was possible, if you apply.

Well, me, wanting another sponsorship to help me out with my car applied at their website for a chance to be sponsored.

Well, I just got an e-mail today from them and this is what was written:

To whom it may concern;

Greetings. Congratulations on your recent sponsorship with Racer X Motorsports.

You have been selected for the $10,000 co-op sponsorship with us. This entitles you to up to 52% off parts retail and rack labor rate up to $10,000.

Your contracts and line card are being sent via US mail. Your t-shirts and stickers will be sent via UPS in approximately 3 weeks.

The account that you have provided to us will be charged $75.00. This is a one time fee that covers the set up of your account and shipping from our where houses for the entire year.

If you have any questions feel free to call 1-302-622-8151 Monday through Friday 11a.m. to 7p.m. eastern standard time.

Sincerely,

Racer X Management

PLEASE DO NOT RESPOND TO EMAIL. NO RESPONSES WILL BE SENT BACK

:end:

now my question is, is this even a real sponsorship? Or did I just get owned? Should I cancel that cc charge?

What do you guys think? It might not be bad a discount, but if I'm only getting "up to 50% off", I dont want to get that 50 off on Type R badges and have to pay full price on the new rims I need.

sounds like you got owned dude.

But, if they are legit, that 52% off retail prices would EASILY be worth the $75. Hell, you could make that up with your first few purchases.

I would want to know what_the this means

Do they have any shops near you that you can use for that $10,000 credit? If not, you got owned and should strongly consdier canceling the credit card charge.

Well, they have a website, and apparently a street address too. I did a quick google search and found a handful of tuning site with links to Racer X, so at first glance at least, it looks decent.

not to mention when you look at the companies that are helping to promote this.

They are legit well known companies.

I just got my papers in the mail the other day. My aunt is a corporate lawyer so I had her proofread this crap.
It is a co-op sponsorship, you can get UP TO 52% off the stuff they have in stock, all drop orders are not 52% off. Special ordered items are at cost.
RACK LABOR is by one of their mechanics or someone they contract to work in different states. If you are you're mech. then you're straight but if you have a mech. and they are not part of the racers x organization then you pay for the labor.
The $75 you sent for application fee is for all the shipping of the items they have in stock. this is for the year so supposedly you will not have to pay shipping
Look in the contract where it says you must attend so many shows and so many races etc.etc. If you do not get pics/vinyl at all these shows/races and prove to them that you have their sticker in a visible place then they can sue you for the 10 grand they promised you.
If something happens to you and you cant attend these events then they can sue you for the 10 grand
My contract stated that I had to attend 4 races/shows a year for 2 years. Whenever you go to these events you have to wear the shirts they give you, being that it is a sponsorship, or they will get you for the 10 grand again.
I have never been sponsored so I don't know if all contracts are like this but I would rather not have to worry about someone trying to get me for 10 grand just because I blew my engine, got unemployed and couldn't afford to fix my car for a while and miss the events they contract you to go to.
This may be easy for you guys but I love to race for fun not for work.

Ok...I talked to the guys there.

It seems as If I get free labor on my car (valued at $45 an hour).

And I also, I am able to get parts from different shops. haha...they even said Shark Racing.

hmm....its begining to look better and better.
