Spring 2006? Nope.
Maybe they meant Spring 2007?
Probably.

BTW, check out the awesome dev kit.

LMAO
Also, in other Anti Sony news...
As everyone knows, the Xbox 1 lost MS about $120 to $200 per Xbox, it cost more to make it than they sold it for. Yes, on purpose. The reason? Easy, make money off of the games and accessories.
Well, the 360 is costing $100 to $125 in losses for each one built.
Now for the PS3.

That's right. It's going to cost Sony $700 to nearly a grand to make them, and they are planning on selling them for $299 to $399 right now. MS can afford the losses, but can Sony?
Discuss.

whoa, thats insane cost to make a video game console.. i dont know much about the ps3 and what not, and dont feel like researching into it, but what disk drive can cost 200-300$$.. a lightscribe DVD +- burner doesnt even cost that much? is it a new HD DVD style, what the hell? theyre gonna lose WAYYY too much money on the PS3 if they make it like theyre planning, and i doubt the sales will benifet them enough to recover from it. its not the price that has sold me an xbox, i just like the gameplay, graphics style, and everything better. i have never like how sony game consoles were.. just didnt give me the feel.
i know i havent witnessed anything about ps3, but i just wouldnt even consider it.
when ps1 came out, i had N64, i even prefer N64 over ps2 in some aspects.
when ps2 came out, i got dreamcast, and liked dreamcast better than ps2, shame it faded out, they had some fun, great games with nice gameplay and graphics..
i had a choice to get xbox or ps2, and picked xbox for the obvious reasons.. while playstation has always had a plethora of games, i HATE the controllers, have always disliked the gameplay, and always bothered by the graphics..

Being someone who has travelled and lived all over, I can safely say that no other brand enjoys the reputation that Sony does, globally.
It's the brand that the masses aspire to. Is it the best brand? Who knows?
But their revenue generated globally would be more than enough to loan the PS3 time to recover the loss per unit, from the PS3 games. I look at it as an investment with a very short breakeven period. Let's say the average owner buys 10 games in their first year and Sony makes $20-$30 per game?, then they make back alot of their investment in the first year.
This is a bold move in my opinion. I was afraid the PS3 would cost alot. If it undercuts the 360, I'd buy it.

it's a dev kit. it's not supposed to look sexy, just get the job done.
and, uh, how does Merrill Lynch know how much it's going to cost if they don't have one to disassemble yet?
maybe it's a good guess, but I don't think it's correct.
at any rate, who really cares? Xbox 360 = Dreamcast 2.0
oh yeah, and ALL ps3's will have a hard drive too. Seems like a no-brainer to me...
i think i'll wait

The cost of the drive technology and other components will drop dramatically in 3 years. It will cost less to produce the machines in 3 years than what they will be selling them for. They lose money for a couple years, break even on the cost of the unit, then profit on sales of units.

I did too! N64 was so much more fun. It's the developers fault for fokking up half of the games. Infact, N64 had so much more potential than it seemed. Take Perfect Dark for example, if you checked out how much detail and FPS (96bits) was compared to other games... They got Zelda right, but messed up Donkey Kong. The games were less mature than Playstation 1 & 2. N64 went down the hole, to what could have been near perfect system, the developers were losing money on cartrages. The games went to sh*t and really lost all of their potential. I chose Playstation 2 because it had Need For Speed Underground 2, World Rally Championship, and Colin McRae Rally 3. As stated above, PS2 had so much more potential than it really seemed. Have you all played Resident Evil 4?! Any good game you played for it you could play for PC. The two player for PS2 sucked. I had so much more fun playing Goldeneye with all FOUR of my friends than a stupid football game for PS2.
Although PS2 was legendary, but people will accept or decline ANY design if you release it. if you go back to 2000 when it came out, had they designed it, i felt as if the controller idea was used up. using a 1994 spec controller in "the new technology age" time is kind of pointless. If you think about it, from 1994-2000 technology went sky high! so it's not just a measily 6 years, it's more like 16. To me it seemed like i was using a 16 year old controller.
Not to mention, who else thinks the PS2 looks UGLY as donkey balls?! it looks like it came from the 80's. it looks like some old atari. am I the only sane one here? it did absolutely nothing but collected dust. it was completely unbalanced, boxy, and difficult to clean. i do not know of ONE person who hasn't got their playstation repaired or replaced at some point, once - three times. it only has two controller ports (give me a break) and the games were just not that fun.
the playstation 3 was delayed for spring 2007, it's been delayed for 2007 for a year now! but from the looks of it, it seems to look like a system should with a few exceptions. i hope four players can play. and i also hope it will be a fun system. wireless controllers? will you have to keep buying batteries?! the CD drive is one one side (fokkers)... let's hope the hardware keeps up and it makes tons of money. i will buy one definitely if the graphics are good, and the games are good. i'm hoping they will build some realistic off the hook rally game. i don't mind waiting for 2007.
No hard drive was the word awhile ago,
http://www.engadget.com/2005/06/02/playsta...h-a-hard-drive/
but now they are saying it will come with a HD
http://www.engadget.com/2006/02/10/report-...rive-after-all/
then Sony's official site says it will be an add on
http://www.engadget.com/2006/02/15/playsta...ard-drive-part/
And the press release today said it will come with a 60 gig hard drive and Linux...plus the delay is official
http://www.nytimes.com/2006/03/15/business...r=1&oref=slogin
I like the talk about being able to possibly download games so you won't have to wait in line at the store just to find out they are sold out!

Xbox 360 uses current technology DVD players. The PS3 will have a Blu-Ray Disc player. The thing is with the Blu-Ray, they have to have different machines to create the BR-Rom discs. So.... higher up front cost for the machines to create the discs and they are also using the new technology which costs more anyways. So 200-300 for the drive... Yup! Try and find a BR-player for cheap... Pioneer's Blu-Ray player is $1800.00. Enjoy!
The Controllers are wireless but use a Lilitum Ion Battery. Plus they are Bluetooth Wireless.
Graphics - 1080p sound good enough for you? Dual HDMI Output / 1 HDMI input sound good to you? Meaning you can play on TWO screens with full 1080p output. *yumm*
I can't wait for PS3 to come out. *drool*
