keyless, pushbutton starter that she was unable to turn off ... was also unable to get the car to decelerate or shift the vehicle into neutral

After the 94-km (59-mile) ordeal that lasted for about 35 minutes,

Yeehaw! Gettin to work FAST today boys!

police finally told her to try pulling back on the accelerator while hitting the brakes. This worked,
which she should have tried in the first place...

In related news, if the gas was stuck, why was it only up to 100MPH, or is this whole story a sad Kia joke?

This sounds like the guy with the Prius that claimed his throttle was stuck when it turned out he just wanted to get on the news. How could a vehicle suffer a failure to the ignition system, shift lever and brakes all at the same time?

^ Its a failure in the contents of the drivers seat.

One of the failed priuses was investigated by Da Gubmint and they found tin whiskers growing in the electronics. It doesn't take too much of that sort of thing to make a drive by wire car go bonkers.
