Planning to move to California -HELP!-
For the summer, I plan on moving to California for about 2 months to take summer classes there.
However, I had a few questions regarding my move there.
I tried calling the DMV/MVA for this information, but those bastards kept me waiting on the phone for a good while before I got mad and hung up the phone.
I'm taking my car over there as I need a mode of transportation in Cali. However, I am worried about whether or not the police there would penalize me for having some of the modifications I have on my car. It has a built beta motor, t3/t4 turbo, and it has no cat (I'll put on on once the engine is broken in). Do you think that the police would give me a hard time b/c of this?
I'm currently looking to apply at UCLA, Cal State Fullerton, and Cerritos City College for the summer semester. Are there any other decent colleges where I can attend? I dont want to go to Irvine b/c I hate Coco Lee.
Any help is really appreciated.

Well Maier (Mr "I don't reply to your questions!" lol ), the best bet for a short term stay is to keep your registration and all other info current in your PRESENT state. You shouldn't have any problems as long as you are from out of state.
When I lived in Kansas and would visit N. Cali, I never had any problems because my car was from out of state.
Of course the military ID being handed over with the Drivers Licence always helps.

yeah.....normally, if you're from out of state, you'll be cool. Unless you're doing something thats known to be illegal nationwide (ie., underbody neons while driving) I normally keep a spare out of state license in my pocket just in case....the beauty of owning property in various states.

as long as your drivers license is out of state, and your plates are out of state, you and your vehicle are exempt from california emissions laws.
You are subject to 'saftey' laws, such as neons, blue bulbs and other such ricey items.
What are you taking summer classes for? If I know the subject area, I can reccomend a school known for that subject matter.
Santa Monica College is dirt cheap (by cali standards).
You also might want to think about where you can afford to live. The rule is, if you can afford to live in an area...you probably don't want to live there. If you want to live in an area...you can't afford it. lol
