I was reading that he smoked a lot and only recently started the treatments in April. WTF? Why so late?
Oh well, smoking kills and hopefully people will catch on. poke.gif

That really sucks..the thing that really sucks is that he had to die with this kind of disease..its horrible. Smoking does kill and I guess many pople can take an example from this man now unfortunately. He really was a good broadcaster.

He ONLY used to smoke guys. He quit cold turkey....FOR TWENTY YEARS. He took it back up with great audacity after his broadcast on 9-11. Ever since 9-11 he has been smoking regularly. Very unfortunate, I think what did him in was he was diagnosed SOOO late. Once they actually verified he had lung cancer it was an impossible battle to win. Just a matter of time.
Recently, the FDA approved a drug that reduces symptoms and may add up to 2 months to you lifespan (for critical patients). That may not seem like a long time but for someone who's told they only have 8 months left to live 2 months is like an extra quarter of a lifetime! Big improvment from zero, I'd say.
you know what's interesting. He never even passed high school but LOVED to learn. He would take an extra suitcase to hotel rooms when he had to travel just filled with books and just....LEARN!

you gotta do it cold turkey. and have an iron will, plus WANT to quit. 85% of smokers WANT to quit and they try to. Screw patches and all that crap...prove the statistics wrong (and save money) and just quit cold turkey.

I watched the special on ABC World News Tonight and it was really heartfelt. Almost brought a tear to my eye..

This is sad, I trusted that guy a lot and liked his message he put across.
I'm so glad my wife quit 2 years ago.
