Overclockers, Help.
Well, now that my computer finally has all the bugs fixed.....I am slightly OC'ing my processor.
If any of you could help me out, it would be great.
AMD Athlon XP 2800 (Socket A).
Right now Its running at 55 degrees Celcius. and the only app running is IE.
I'd like to get a little more outta this processor, but don't like how close it runs to its stated limits. 85 Degrees.
After playing KOTOR for an hour the other night, I went straight into my MB's OC app (EasyTune 4) and checked the temps.....it was running at 72C.
I plan on eventually swapping the XP for an MP (for unlocked Multipliers). MY XP is running at 2.19 ghz, came at 2.08 ghz.
Only OC change I've made was bumping the system bus from 166 to 175.
Case cooling is not an issue, right now I have 4 exhaust fans, and Im planning on getting 2 more (4 exhuast, 2 intake).
With nothing open and running (even at the factory rated speed) it has never dropped below 50C. From the little that I've read, most OC'ers have thier processors running in the temp range that mine runs in (w/ no load) AT FULL LOAD......
I need some opinions for aftermarket heatsinks.
Please help.

It's been awhile since I have done any OC'ing. Check out www.hardocp.com if you haven't already.

LOL, yeah. I thought that was common knowledge. If you have an Athlon processor disconnect your fan for about 15 seconds and it should burn up. Intel chips detect the overheating and start shutting down. There was actually a video comparison somewhere before. I also saw a video of a dude frying an egg on a processor.
tomshardware.com has lots of info on CPU cooling, overclocking etc. They are the ones who made the video with the athlon cpu frying when removing the fan+heatsink.
I don't think you have to buy an athlon MP processor to change the multiplier, I think you just have to close a couple bridges on the CPU and it'll register as an MP processor, that info should also be at tomshardware.com .
As far as your CPU temp, that seems pretty damn hot to me. Increased operating temperature also lowers the life of your CPU significantly. If you want to get hardcore, get a water or vapor cooling system!
For aftermarket heatsinks, obviously go all copper and a bigass fan on top. Mine runs at 7800rpm or so (it's loud as hell though) and keeps the CPU pretty cool (~42 degrees C at no load). Again, tomshardware.com has lots of info on heatsinks and fans with plenty of tests and numbers to back it up.

Thanks, Both of you. I will take a more detailed look into both sites later this evening when I get home.
No plans for watercooling ATM. Too expensive for me right now.
However, IF i can find a good enough HSF combo, I would be very happy If my processor was running at 50-55C at load.
Thanks for the info about closing the bridges A_Gut, I will definately give that a look.
But of course only AFTER I get the processors temps down.
I'll post again tomorrow once I have taken a good look around, I may have some more questions, but most likely will just want opinions on the HSF's I find.
Thanks again.

um, u can actually get a decent oc on amd chips or at least on my 1800+. ive overclock the 1800+ to a 2400+ with no problems and the computers been play need for speed and doom 3 sooo.....also if u ahve a nvidia video card do a google search on Coolbits . its the overclocking program that is built into the nvidia drivers, hidden of course......
I realize this 00.
did you read WHY im only mildly overclocked right now????
If there was such a thing, I'd be running my 2800+ at 3100+ speeds. 2.185 Ghz. XP 3000+ is at 2.16, XP 3200+ is at 2.2.
I will be looking into the HSFs later today after I go get my stupid emmissions test done......I hope I pass, cuz Im pretty much broke and wont have the money to fix my exhuast if i don't............
