For any of you that have followed my health issues and such, I thought I'd give you an update, since everyone keeps asking me about it.

After the last 2 surguries, things have been better. The headaches are mostly gone and controlled with the Hypertension medication I'm taking, and the knee pain and toe pain are mostly gone. Worst I get is some arthritus or my left knee hurts after too many stairs and the like.

Anyways, I submitted an application to get my Disability rating upped after this last set of surguries I had in February of last year.

The rating board finished their work and have deferred decision on 2 of the items until I can be seen again at the hospital soon.

Here's where I was and where I am now.

Was at 70% total disability, but only getting paid for 50% (If you have overlapping problems, like multiple kinds of scarring, they combine it so you aren't double dipping). I was making 775 a month, tax free, for life, at 50%.

Well, now they upgraded me to 120% disabled, but only paid for 80%. I'll be making 1463 a month, tax free, for life.

Here's the kicker.

The effective date of this new rating?

January 6th.

2005.

That's right. I got a huge back pay payment coming to me. Not to mention, they considered me convalesent and home bound for the 2 months after my surgury, so I get 100% pay for those 2 months. That's a total, roughly, of about 12K I should be getting in the next 2 weeks.

I almost fainted reading this. So, I will be completely, 100%, out of debt by the end of February. After the last 2 items I claimed are decided, I have one more claim to file and them to decide on. If I go to 100% after that, that's 2797 a month, tax free, for life, oh yeah, and that will also be backdated to January 2005. That means I could get another back payment of up to 15K at that time.

Needless to say, we are going out to dinner tonight. Also, this means that I may be able to buy my Baja this year and put down a down payment on a house. All of this isn't including the 700 a month I get paid to go to school, so I don't have to work.

I'm estatic. Thanks Uncle Sam! Thanks for your support and concern guys.

Wow, that's amazing. You should buy the Twin Engined Tib then. LOL

But really, congrats man, this is definitely righteous for all those years of being in danger and obviously facing some due to your physical health.

Congrats man, enjoy your financial independance.
