Old Tiburons
I know Hyundai's don't have good resell value (not yet anyway) but what about our cars? What does modding a car do to it's resale value. My question came from a call I got from my mom saying she saw a 97 Tib modded almost like mine for $4,500. I thought that was a great deal. I told her if I had the extra cash I'd buy it and have two. I was just wondering about everyone's thoughts on this.
a 97 tib for 4500....i don't know...best condition stock 97 tibs go for high 3's
people who modify cars usually do it for a reason...to drive it harder, unless they do all show stuff. then you have to worry about quality of installs, quality of maintance (as usual). personally i wouldn't by a pre-modified car, because more than likely the person who had it before you had fun...that's probably why it's modified.
buy a stock one in ok condition for 3000ish...if your all about getting another tiburon (mostly stock) i'd think about selling mine for 3500ish (i'm in va).

modding your car does really nothing to the overall value of your car, yea you will increase the value but if your putting a 150 dollar intake on it, expect to get a 30 dollar increase on your cars value. im just using that as an example im not sdaying thats exactly what it is, but you will never get the money you put into it, out of it.......if that makes sense to anyone.
just mod to have a different car then everybody else, to make your car look nicer, go faster, & have louder music.

I had just read an article on how much modding your car adds to the resale value... but for the life of, I can't remember where. Basically it was like this.. take the value of your car for the condition it is in (kelly blue book value) and then add up the prices for all the stuff you added (not including time)... and times that number by about 10 to 20% and add it to the KBB value of the car... Unfortunatly, unless somebody REALLY likes and has to HAVE your car... you are SOL when it comes time to sell.
hey hey.... i paid 8500 for my 2000 tib last july.... bought it in chicago at a car auction with one of my buddies (who is also a part time used car salesman) i got one hell of a deal on my dreamcar and i've had no regrets at all
also... side note. IMO i modify my tiburon because i love to do it. I love learning new things about my car and just learning about overall automotive techniques and stuff. I am really not in it for makin money or anything and as for resale value... haha im probably gonna run this biotch till she dies

It ADDS to the resale value of the car if you sell it privately, that's true, if you trade it in, you are screwed.
no i don't think it adds to the resale value..or shouldn't. if the buyer has any sense he wouldn't pay too much more tha Bluebook unless your turbo or have some major work done. but then again i wouldn't really buy a modded car as i already mentioned.
i paid 5200 for my 97 tiburon 2 years ago...i don't know how you paid 9k for a 99 that sounds rediculus.
but also when you modifiy a car and try to sell it you DRASTICALLY cut the number of potential buyers.
