My time in the 4 cylinder world is soon coming to an end. While the Tiburon and Hyundai's in general for me have been extremely good, I want to grow up to something I can have more fun with.
I've been eying up used Pontiac GTO's and Chevrolet C5 Corvette's. Both are based on the same engine platform, can be has for 12-15k if you keep an eye out for them as well.
I have several friends that have Corvette's and LS based cars, and they seem to be very capable. The GTO would be more practical and I could see myself using it as a daily driver, but the Corvette would be more for the weekend, cruising around.
I'm torn between the two. I'm not a fan of the way the GTO looks, but love the hardtop C5's. Dollar for dollar you can see more power for your dollar, and the biggest thing is rear wheel drive for me. With some simple bolt on's you can be deep into the 11 second bracket, and still have a reliable daily driver.

seeing that you are getting married soon and possibly starting a family in near future...i say GTO even though weigh alot...
but if you were staying single hands down would be the VETTE
but if you were staying single hands down would be the VETTE

GTO would be more of a practical choice because it has a backseat. My uncle used to have one and he is in his mid 60's of age and his wife made him sell it before he killed himself in it. He let me drive it several times, they are very enjoyable to drive. 6 speed and rear drive ftw! I'd say insurance would run more on a vette also.

My shop specializes in LSx GM cars. The GTO is heavier, more practical and easier to work on. The 'Vette is lighter, less practical and can be a b***c to work on. Either way, they're very easy to tune, so that's a bonus.

With your dedication to Hyundai, honestly, I'd wait for the Genesis Coupe. That car... Good lord. You can have your bigger engine, bigger car, nicer car, and stay in the family. After chilling in a Genesis Sedan, I just can't wait for the coupe.
Think about it, you could save a bit for the next several months, pick up a coupe and some parts for it at the same time. Or hell, get the factory SC they are all talking about on the V6.
if you had to pick one of the others, I'd say the vette because I'm a vette man myself, although i'd rather have the Korean Corvette.
