Schovile Units. It's a measure of heat.

You could talk about all the different chillies, from Green peppers to Habenero's.

Make up some food to bring in too.

You'll get an A.

I mean it. It'd rule.

Something I did senior year in high school... tested the effects of an electric field on cell growth. It won first place at my school, if that counts for anything laugh.gif

The project consists of the following:

Go to home depot and buy some 6in x 6in (approx) metal plates, aluminum, steel, whatever, just has to be metal.

Buy 10-15 9V batteries. These will be connected to the metal plates to create the electric field. Chain some together to get different electric field strengths. An electric field is defined as V/d, V = voltage, d = distance between plates.

Go to your local supermarket and buy some green onions. These are your test subjects.

Setup your electric fields (plates held upright and parallel, battery connected across plates), and place a green onion between each. You'll have to find some way to hold them upright and in water so they'll be allowed to grow. I used a small paper cups and toothpicks.

Every day or two, remove a root from each onion. Get a scalpal and cut a sliver off each root to look at under a microscope, try to cut them off the same part of the root for each onion (the tip is the best, where the most cell growth is). Take a picture. My school had microscopes and an eyepiece to hookup to a TV, and I took a picture of the TV. It probably would have been better to hook the signal up to a computer and copy the image directly that way.

At first, the cells should all look pretty much the same. After about a week you should see significant differences. The onion cells under the higher electric field will look more unhealthy and irregular.

At the end of the experiment, I also cut off all the roots from each onion and weighed them. The onions under lower electric fields tended to have a higher mass of roots.

Document everything, make your theory on why the higher electric field stunts the growth of the onions. There a few different ways to go here, as cells use electric fields for different operations, like in the Kreb cycle when harvesting energy.

Stand the plates up parallel to eachother, so you have something like this...

|<--d-->|

Imagine the lines as the edge of the plates. Use the distance "d" (meters) to calculate your electric field. Get some alligator clips, clip one side to the positive terminal of the battery, clip the other end to one of the plates. Do the same for the negative terminal, clip it to the opposite plate. You now have an electric field laugh.gif

Default New windshield wipers. Last 5 years!

I don't have an report about them, but I can find one I'm sure. Let me get back to you.

You could always cut and paste all of these into a document and edit it to your writing style.
