Default My car buying experience...

Here the deal. I'm getting a $1.51/hr raise at work starting January 1st. So I thought with this extra income I could afford a more practical, and powerful car. I was interested in the Elantra.
I went to my dealership last Monday morning, and said I was looking for a 2003 Elantra GL {base model}, Silver with a 'stick'. The salesmen said that a new 2002 will have a lower interest rate. Being that the 2002 is identical I agreed to that. Then I talked to the woman that sets up the financing and offers the additional crap. While I was talking to her, the salemen came from his office to tell me that it will be impossible to find last years model in Silver. He asked what my other colour choices were, I said Parrot Blue or Black. Next day, I show up, there is a blue Elantra outside, I go to have a look and there is a beige interior!
I went inside, told the salesman that I didn't want that car. Then the manager comes out and both of them try everything in their power to sell me that car. I wasn't going to take it. So he said, alright, you can go home and I'll see what I can find for you. Later on that day I recieved a call that there is a black Elantra with grey interior. Great I say. The next day I get another phone call, the black isn't no longer avialable, but, miraculously a Silver GL appeared at a Hyundai dealership somewhere in Ontario, and they want to sell me that car. So as it stands, it took them 4 days to sell me a Silver car that didn't exsist on the first day I went to the dealership. So, for making more work for me, I think that a big dealership discount is in order.
When negotiating, what is a reasonable amount to talk to dealership down to?

Just curious, sicne you are getting a raise why the interest to blow your money on a brand new car that will depreciate very quickly? Why so interested to throw away money so quickly?

What's wrong with buying a used car and fixing it up to make it better than one off the showroom floor?

Now you tell me...

And about wasting my money; I can't seem to get over the fact that its 'used'. For some reason that bothers me enough for me to spend all that extra money on a new car. I want to be responsible for everything, both good and bad that happens to my vehicle.
For example, my girlfriends mom just bought her a 99 Ford Escort ZX2, since August she's had to spend $1100 for a new timing belt, timing belt pulleys, two sets of new sparks plugs, diagnostics, and labour, included other pointless crap. And to top it off the point of the servicing was to stop the freight-train like vibration that the car exudes when idling or at low RPM. And after all that trouble of not having a car for two days and spending all that money; they hadn't fixed a fuggin thing!
I'll buy new cars as long as I can continue to afford them, I understand depreciation and all that, but to me its worth it. Besides, I'm not much of a drinker, don't smoke, or do drugs, so I'm pretty good at managing my money. AND, the Elantra isn't going to cost me a whole lot more for a car that has a lot more to offer than the Accent.

I definately agree with you that buying a new car is the only way to go, that way if you mess something up at least you'll know it was you... plus new cars smell better... just to let you know, I bought my car (2002 GLS) for $12,000 (back in may) and the MSRP was $12,499 and the sticker was $14,999 or something like that... try to get it down as low as you can... "Give me this car, as low as you can" and when they say some number say "Thats too high, I said lower" and then they'll lower it again, and then just keep doing that til you get a price that cant go any lower with...

Hey, I'm not attacking you nor am I jealous of you for wasting your money on a new car. Its yours to waste. I was just asking why you have chosen a very illogical way to spend your money since you decided to post on an open message board.

EDIT: added "not"
