I was looking to buy a sports bike, it would be my first one. Does anyone have one who can reccommend a good first bike? And even if you dont have one any ideas? Thanks for the help

I'm starting with a Ninja 650R. But I've wanted one for a few years now...How much are you looking to spend? New or used? I'd keep the bike relatively low powered until you know you can tame something bigger. The worst thing you can do is spend a crap load of money on a new bike and dump it the first time you ride it. Oh and keep in mind, that if you're looking for speed, the biggest advantage of a bike is its weight or lack thereof, not displacement. Good luck! fing02.gif

Ive heard Ninja 250's are great starter bikes, they'll only run you a couple grand and still look good. ~14.6 in the quarter which is plenty quick enough to get around town and slow enough to help you avoid killing yourself while you learn

I'm thinking about buying one myself for a DD to save gas.

Exactly. Good looking, cheap, and fuel friendly. And I've heard the same about the 250's being good for beginners. I only went with the 650 cause I got a good deal from a friend, but yeah def go the route of a 250cc bike if your looking for something relatively easy to learn on. You can always upgrade later.

yea i was looking for something used and nothing too powerful. i think a 650 might be a little too much right now.

does anyone know of any other 250cc bike, other than the ninja that they would reccomend?

I just got my learner riding licence last week & bought a Honda VT250 Spada. Cheap & easy bike to learn on. It already had a sports exhaust fitted so it sounds pretty good for a 250cc.

Over here, we're restricted to a certain capacity & power-to-weight until you get your full licence, which is a year or two after getting your learner licence.

As far as I know its about he only common 250cc sport bike I'm sure you could find something else in that category but those are super common.

Found this nice write up: http://www.chuckhawks.com/good_first_motorcycles.htm

Just from my limited knowledge I'd look at a 250 ninja or a buell blast. How big are you (weight & height matter) and how much experience do you have? I rode dirt bikes growing up and I find it annoying to ride the larger bikes. I prefer the nimbleness of my 250 which is why I'm building a super moto bike. Gotta do some off roading too!

edit: oz, I don't think you can get that bike here.
