Hey everyone,

I'm just curious to know how much mileage you've been able to put on a single tank in your Tibby. Also, mention whatever mods you might have done to your car as a way of comparing.

As for me, I have managed to do just under 900km (560 miles) on a tank while driving from Ottawa to Nova Scotia last summer. This was just before I rebuilt my engine, but I also had the CAI installed. Note that I also had the cruise control set at 125km/h (78mph) pretty much the entire way. The gas light had turned on around 850km and I pulled over to fill up a bit further down the road. Still had about 5L left in the tank. I'm confident I could have made 1000km on it no problem, but didn't want to risk missing a gas station.

What have you guys managed to do??

I broke 500 one time. It was stock (and automatic) at the time, and I drove interstate the entire way following my parents in an SUV. Maybe the draft is what allowed me to get that much, and driving 55-60 the entire way.

That's still pretty good, for an automatic. The auto tranny really does kill the mileage on it. Another thing that kills it is having the AC on. For whatever reason, the AC compressor on these cars is very big for such a small engine. My father says he sees AC compressors less than half the size on Toyotas these days. Anyone who uses the AC on their Tib knows how much of a power drain it is. Even just having the windows down can hurt the mileage a lot (which is what I do since I removed the AC out of the car).

You probably did get that good mileage from drag (depending on how close you were following). I watched this episode of Mythbusters where they tested the drag reduction you get from following a semi on the highway at 55mph and you can get as much as 10% reduction from being just 100ft away. I'm sure being 40ft behind an SUV will do about the same.

I was following an Expedition. I always drive with windows down and sunroof open. I think the sunroof helps a lot, it pulls the air out of the cabin, and usually makes my bass sound harder

Mythbusters showed a 94% drag reduction when tailgating a semi trailer at 50MPH . . . at 5 FEET behind the truck.

I'm still happy to get 34MPG . . .

I always fill mine at about 300 miles. Never takes 11 gallons at that distance. Hell I don't even know how big our tanks our. I just don't like the crap that lives on the bottom of the tank getting in the fuel pump and injectors as much.

Slightly different topic I went from about 200 miles never dropping below 110mph and still got 26mpg. I was amazed at that, and that I didn't get pulled over.

412 on a turbocharged hyundai. stock compression, low boost, mostly highway. I normally get around 350-370 to a tank with city driving, comes out to about 30-33mpg average. trackdays I see closer to 10-15mpg, lol.

Tennessee is full of hills. Always going up or down... sucks for gas mileage. I stay constant between 20-22mpg at all times.
