Default Most important states?

What do you all think? I'm talking about everything—population, cultural impact, economic impact, etc., etc., etc. I would say the top two are California and New York.

The top four would include Texas and Florida.

The New England states, Massachusetts in particular. Along with Pennsylvania, it's the birthplace of our country. It's also home to two of our greatest sources for knowledge... Harvard and MIT. Add to that all of the medical breakthroughs that come out of Mass General and all of the history contained in it's museums, architecture, historical places, etc... As much as car forum people (mostly conservatives) hate New England politics, there's no denying the massive importance of those states.
