ElanGT I had a cousin murdered in front of an IHOP in Houston so you never know
There's a difference between being in dangerous places and being scared. The flight deck of an aircraft carrier during flight ops is as dangerous a place as I've been but it's more awesome than scary.

My old apartment complex in west Atlanta. It was a gated community in theory, but people (even tenants) eventually gave up on the gate and just began ramming them rather than using the cards for access. As it was literally broken more often than not, even the complex gave up and at night you'd have all kinds of people rolling through looking for sh*t to take. All of the neighbors on my floor got their apartments ransacked, I've had to draw on a few people and one night took a swing as some fool with a sword I just bought when he pulled a knife on me. Probably the reason my place never got raided. Needless to say I broke lease and got the f*ck out of there. I was paying $850 for a 900 sq/ft one bedroom and I'll be damned if I'm going to pay that much to basically be mugged every night. Even when the gate worked people would, without any exaggeration, line up 2 wide and several deep just to tailgate in. I was the dick that kept just inches between the trunk and the gate, enough that you could't trip the sensors. But again they'd just ram the gate and chase me around the parking lot, or in one instance ram my car. That's also the closest I've ever come to committing murder.

I spent a night in a ghetto part of Tacoma, WA in the Accent when it broke down. Long story short I slept in the car with my jacket covering me and a pistol in each hand. At one point 7 guys in an Escalade rolled up and surrounded my car. There was a guy glaring at me through the driver's window, one on each side in front of the car, one by the Escalade, two behind me, and one in the driver's seat of the Escalade. The guy outside my window pulled his coat back to show a pistol tucked into his jeans. I just looked back at him, slightly reclined, with what was probably a disturbingly confident look on my face.
Under my jacket my .45 was in my right hand, safety off, finger on the trigger pointing at the guy inches from my face. My left hand held my .22 and was crossed over pointing at the guy by my passenger's side fender. I planned to cross back over and get the one by my fender and in front by the Escalade next. I couldn't see where the guys behind me went, but if I was still ticking by then I would get out and try to take care of them.
Luckily, after a couple minutes of tension the guy at my window waved everyone off and they hopped into the Escalade and sped off.
