Default MCSE

Damnit...just as soon as I finished my projected MOD's prior to Nopi...I get this call for the Win2k MCSE track and Net.+ course ware/support..bla bla bla...grrrrrr....well MODS might have to wait a little bit..This is more important...depends though...I need to make a descision prior to 2:00pm today to "take advantage" of this "great deal"....I mean it is a great deal...just kinda bad timing...but FYI: MCSE entry level is 65,000-85,000 per year..and I am a un-certified Network Admin. so I will need this title/cert soon/someday...I guess a brake from a class tought at $11,000 to $1,400.00 {after interest/tax..and bs charges} for the disks..is worth it...Anyone MCSE'd in Win2k here? It hurts me to want the MCSE over Shark mods...but I need to think of future and also wife on this one...where as SHARK is TOP NOTCH..hehe..or in bmy book @least...

Any thought would be cool...But i know what I have to do...grrrrrrrrr.. smile.gif

If I wait for 1-2 months, my work will pay for classes ($11,000.00) if I sign a 2yr. contract...but as of right now im the Network Admin. w/o the title...Current title:

IS/IT Manager

Im supporting 34 nodes, 4 servers, all Office Suite, AutoCAD support, Create and manage all brochures, printer supplies, upgrades/patches/fixes...and so forth...And currently im underpaid by around 10k for my current title...

Basically if it has a computer attached to it...it's my job to fix/support it.

Well off to lunch...gimme something to read after I get back from Taco Bell.....

Everyone holds a beer up and says....

"To the future!"

You will kick yourself later if you don't take care of your future first.

Whoever is telling you that Entry Level MSCE's are $65k plus is blowing sunshine up your A**.

MSCE's are a dime a dozen. There are so many people out there with that certification, that it has almost means nothing. Entry level MSCE's in LA earn Under $40K, MSCE's under 5 years of experience earn under $60K... If you want a Microsoft certiication that means something that will get you more than $60K go for the "MCDBA" cert. or at least try to get the MCSD and MCSE together.

If at all possible, go with a more specialized market place if you really want to rake in the $$$. Cisco, Lotus, etc...

Also...there are SO MANY books out there that will teach you what you need to know for so much less. $1000 in books is a lot of fricking books. There are also many different video and CD traning courses for around $1000 to $1500...that will server you just as well as $11,000 for classes. Well..it's your money. Spend it wisely grasshopper.

Listen to Random he knows what he is talking about by the time I get out of the Marine Corps I will have most of those certifications plus my schools. I plan on working for Generals Dynamics making at least $70,000 a year if not mmore by other companys, you got to love free training . My job I basically a skilled profession in troubling shooting communication equipment.
Don't waist your money on a silly certification like MCSE get cisco that alone will hook you up. smile.gif

I have to agree with Random. Those starting pay numbers are quite high.

However, an MCSE cert will make it easier to find a job, coupled with real world experience. Experience and certs/education can get you in the door, but what you will ultimately make will depend on what you do once you are there.

There are lots of ways to prepare for the tests and an $11,000, or even $1400 class wouldn't be my personal choice. I prefer to just get the books (can be had for a few $100), and study. Some people like a class environ better. Thats up to you.

In any case, I would definately recommend making the investment in yourself. You have the whole rest of your life to reap the rewards of that investment - and modify cars with all the resulting money smile.gif

Good luck,
Don

Why didnt you stay in a Computer related field? Bad location? Lost interest? Well, if it comes down to it..now atleast you can do "side" jobs to make a living.. )

More of a loss of interest. I'm not into the whole "office" thing. Plus dealing with those jerkoff's who don't know how to work there 'puter makes me angry =-)

Like the lady that once told me:
"The screen says C colon slash and I don't know what you call it, but we call it 'chicken-lips'"

Talking about the "C:>" prompt.

I've heard some crazy stuff.
